I was wondering if Mega Bloks are compatible (sp?) with Lego?

~Adam

Mostly. Dealing with just the basic bricks and plates (I haven't even looked
at the MB specific specialty pieces, other than canopies... so I can't say
if their rods are compatible with LEGO ones, if their clip pieces are
compatible etc.

Overall, the rods and bars of MegaBloks are the same 8LDU diameter as LEGO
rods, likely because Ritvik was smart enough to make its figures' hands the
same grip size as LEGO minifigs, thereby creating at least a small demand for
MegaBloks figure accessories such as swords and shields.

I can say their canopies are similar to the classic LEGO
style that connects to the hinged 4x1 plate with 5 teeth, but unfortunately
only connects to their own, much looser version of that plate)

The LEGO 1x2 hinge plate with three fingers will fit on the MegaBloks 1x4
hinge plate, and the 1x2 hinge plate w/2 fingers will hold the canopy piece,
but not as well as I would like.

Note also that while the bricks are about as rigid as LEGO bricks, the plates
are considerably more flexable (and hence have a much greater tendency to
sag over unsupported spans).

On the other hand, I *do* like their 4x and 8x half-height plates.  These are
fairly rigid and provide a large floor or roof surface without wasting a lot of
pieces for extra support such as is often needed with a 1/3 height plate roof.

I also checked out Best-Lock (or however you spell it). I was quite
surprised that they would release a 'compatible' brand where the bricks
aren't even the same height (so you would not be able to stack BL bricks
properly next to LEGO ones!). No wonder they're languishing on the shelves
here.

As much as I like the set designs, I can't imagine why a competitor would
make its product so deliberately non-compatible with the leading brand.  I'm
waiting for my local TRU to drop the price on its stock so I can load up.

     Dave!
