This single directory zip file doesn't seem to be a problem for MLCAD at
least.  I just made a new sub-directories under /PARTS and called them  KNex
& Sploids.  I didn't want them to show up in the parts listing so this works
well for me.  I can't really speak to brand awareness, but I don't recall
any restrictions on the use of the LDRAW format.  I could be wrong, though.
I should probably ask how to best present the library of Contrux(r) parts I
just started making in LDRAW format... Any ideas, anybody ?

PS.  FYI, I probably lean towards LEGO purism more often than not, but being
able to design things with other building systems and using elements from
multiple systems in one design intrigues me...

A further problem may be that the files from the Sploids site unzip to a
single directory, rather than self-organizing into a \p, \parts, and • \part\s,
so the user must manually move files to the appropriate locations.  In
addition, if the files are found to be undesirable, the user must manually
remove them, rather than by using a simple program such as that provided • by the
courteous author of MegaBloks-style clone.dats:

http://members.bellatlantic.net/~drteeth1/clones/clone5.htm

As a final note, I see that the Sploids site links to LDraw.org, but the
Sploids team doesn't seem to have read the section on brand awareness, • since
they use the improper term "LCAD" a few times.

Mind you, I'm the last person to rain on someone else's DAT parade, but • I
wanted to be sure that this commercial use of LDraw is appropriate, and I • was
also curious whether LDraw.org has had any contact with Sploids.com.  None • of
my business, really, but as a concerned citizen...

(...) written in 1999, so it's apparent that the project has been underway for some time. This may be bad news for Ryan Farrington, who not so long ago went to considerable trouble to write some very cool DAT files for K'nex parts, too: (URL) A (...)
