shame on me for responding to my own post, but i found where i had put some
images for the godzilla stuff:

the ghidorah is actually the cooler of the two sets (godzilla looks more like
an alley cat on steroids) but i found it interesting the way these models use
ball-and-socket elements for better mobility of arms and legs (and this was
BEFORE throw-bots).

as i understand it the gamera model (like the ultraman) doesn't use the
ball-and-socket approach but rather suggests the builder reconstruct the model
to the desired pose (standing, kneeling, flying, etc.).  that's kind of a
rip-off, but again, i like them more for displaying anyway.

kawada IS pretty poopy but i really enjoy the 10-inch godzilla models for
displaying purposes and would probably still be willing to pay a ridiculous
price if i were to see someone selling the gamera model (to go with the
godzilla and ghidorah models i kept).

couple of years.

all that's left is a few lego, mega-blok (oddly enough, the mega-blok stuff is
increasing in quantity lately) and a couple of kawada sets.

Boy, that Kawada stuff is awful.  I bought a few small kits on eBay and
was surprised at how unsatisfying they were.  I could probably be called
clone-friendly, and I still can't abide the stuff.  I think ATCO is, if not
the same stuff under a different name, remarkably similar in quality, such
as it is.
Does anyone know how many actual clone brands are on the market today?  I
refer to compatible brands such as MegaBloks, Intelli-Blox, and even
Best-Lock, I suppose, but not Kawada or ABC Blocks, which are basically
LEGO-shaped but not compatible in any useful sense.
