Why did Model Team die? —Stéphane Simard
Hello all, I never bought a Model Team set (I always thought Technic was better), although I did see the first highway rig they did, the 86' one, a friend owned one. I never understood two things about Model Team: 1) Why did it stop in the mid (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Why did Model Team die? —David Laswell
(...) Part of it was the fact that they were expensive, and the more expensive a set gets the less people there are who would consider buying it. Star Wars and Harry Potter are currently the only two themes that seem to be able to sell droves of the (...) (21 years ago, 8-May-03, to lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Why did Model Team die? —Matt Canales
(...) Me neither, but I wish I did :( If I ever find Mega MISB Discount I'll go for it, I really like MT. (...) I never collected Technic really, but I got a couple small sets from Wal Mart and Longs Drugs here and there (like 1268 Bike Blaster) but (...) (21 years ago, 11-May-03, to lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Why did Model Team die? —Allan Bedford
(...) I think it might actually be Latin. Short for "id est", meaning "that is". I believe it's used when you are trying to explain what something means. i.e. you are saying the same thing you just said, but in other, more clear words. Here's an (...)      (...) It helped me, I've been confused abotu those two for a while. Thanks! Best regards, /Tobbe (URL) SPAM when e-mailing) (21 years ago, 13-May-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Is Model Team still with us?(was: Why did Model Team die?) —Mike Case
(...) I'm not sure Lego ever gave up on this market segment. The last official Model Team sets, #5563 -- the Racing Truck and #5533 -- The Red Fury, were released in 1999. The next year, Lego introduced the Ultimate Collector Series sets, which is (...) (21 years ago, 11-May-03, to lugnet.modelteam)

Re: Is Model Team still with us?(was: Why did Model Team die?) —David Laswell
(...) I'd never actually thought of it this way. My first inclination was to look at it as MT ending the year SW was introduced, which would effectively mean that SW killed MT the same way that Blue killed Tan (it's an M&M thing, not a Phaze thing). (...) (21 years ago, 11-May-03, to lugnet.modelteam)
