I just wonder how much of this is related to the Denial of Service attack,
and how much of it is actually just due to the somewhat inherent
instabilities in eBay's system.
I mean, i've read several stories about this, and they all quote eBay
sources as saying that the attack was from 6pm-9pm EST. Then why couldn't i
get the Mister Lister online reviewer to work at 3pm? (If you've noticed
any errors in the big batch of auctions i posted this afternoon, this would
be why!) But yet I could still APPROVE the auctions.
It would seem that if it was a denial of service attack at that time, then I
wouldn't have been able to do anything, including approve them. I'm not
saying that they didn't get hit later on, but with a track record like
eBay's, I just don't think that it would really take all that much to knock
them offline.

| Hi everyone, Well, I hear that the "attack-search" weenies have turned their guns from Yahoo to eBay and buy.com. Their method seems to be to simply overwhelm the search engine with constant queries--by the hundreds of thousands per minute. Sure (...) (25 years ago, 9-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.theory)
