It's usually clearer on ebay, it's a selling point.
Maybe it's why the parts are cheaper.

Design compromise: Can you alter colors to suit new parts availability.

Could be some sellers are milking the situation. Maybe assume used when no
mention is made. What do they say 'cravat emperor' (pun alert).

Sellers should mention the condition, maybe abbreviations would help.
eg. N(new),U1(used-excellent),U2(used-good),U3(used-fair),U4(used-poor).
Or you could 'out' the sellers.

| (...) I don't think any kind of "rating system" is a good idea. There would just be too many problems with that. Some people would be confident that their item is in "N (new)" condition while others would think the same item fits into "U1 (...) (24 years ago, 18-Mar-01, to lugnet.market.theory)

| (...) Indeed. Ever play "whackamole"?? Push one thing down and something else pops up. All MTW designs are a carefully balanced tradeoff between the ultimate and the doable.
