Possibly, because they think it may reduce the prices they can realize on
their sales. Potential buyers might be more likely to bid (or bid higher)
if they aren't worried about being sniped, or they might bid higher simply
out of appreciation for the seller's effort to fight sniping. The same can
be said of reserve prices -- it's not clear whether they increase or
decrease the ultimate sale price of an item. Some bidders keep bidding
incrementally higher amounts until they see that they have reached the
reserve price, but others boycott reserve auctions entirely.
