Re: 18 different Custom Lego Space sets available

(...) Hi Lenny, thanks for the posting. I appreciate your comments about setting pricing at a balanced rate. As I mentioned to Douglas, setting prices has been an ongoing process for me. I think that your suggestion of .20 per piece could work on (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-04, to lugnet.market.brickshops, lugnet.market.theory, FTX)

Re: 18 different Custom Lego Space sets available

(...) Hi Douglas, thanks for the reply. I actually have posted this in the market area, I just thought I'd post it in the Space area in case those people don't browse the buy/sell/trade area. If they don't normally post them here, I just won't post (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-04, to lugnet.market.brickshops, lugnet.market.theory, FTX)

Re: 18 different Custom Lego Space sets available

(...) Honestly, to me - .35 to .50 per piece is outrageous unless there is something REALLY special about it, and even then. I think keeping a custom set price within the .20 per piece range is the best bet for giving people a good value for their (...)   Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

(...) I once (politely) complained to a Best Buy employee about their fondness for rebates. He agreed, and said that customers claim only about 40% of possible rebates. On one level that irks me, but in another sense I am glad to have that 60% (...) (23 years ago, 26-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

(...) Snipped a lot of good info. Most of which I agree with. However I do NOT agree that there is no such thing as a loss leader. Case in point. I went to Best Buy on Black Friday. They were selling DVD players for 19 dollars after rebate. Many (...) (23 years ago, 25-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

(...) snip (...) Another factor involving big-box retailers is shelf-space spiffs (from the manf to the retailer). I'm pretty sure that WM charges for prime location end-caps. The manf's prolly pay WM off in extra product rather than real dollars. (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

I read a similar article in another publication about a month ago and it upset me then. I think it was in Newsweek. Anyway, it upset me because the reporter must have been an idoit! The phenomenon of the "loss leader" is a myth! Yes a Myth! I (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

Arguably, WalMart and Target are just getting their revenge on TRU etc. After all, companies like TRU are known as "category killers" whose business model of having the largest range of products in some category, and is antithetical to the "variety (...)   Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

(...) And of course the trick is to buy lots of the loss leaders (if they're something you want) while resisting the temptation to buy other stuff. One good (but not infallible) giveaway is when quantity is limited, there's a fairly good chance it's (...) (23 years ago, 24-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: New York Times on Walmart Pricing

(...) Ah, yes, the ever wonderful science of a "loss leader"...sell one thing at a loss to lead others to buy more stuff....get the kids to buy toys while mom gets milk, bread, eggs, cookie dough, wrapping paper, etc, yadda yadda...as opposed to (...)   New York Times on Walmart Pricing

Today's (23 December 2003) New York Times has an interesting article on Walmart's effect on the toy market -- pushing toy-specific retailers to the brink. General thrust is that Walmart and sometimes Target are selling numerous toy items below their (...) (23 years ago, 23-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.mediawatch)

  KB delaying payments

Reuters has a report that KB-toys is rumored to be delaying payments to some vendors... (URL) available on other sites that carry the Reuters Business wire. Most interesting is the last para concerning KB possibly going to private label toys. Ray (23 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.market.theory)

  TRU Closing stores

Very hard to read[1], but TRU appears to be shuttding down their freestanding Kids'R'Us and Imaginarium stores. I've never seen any of these, but someone might care. . .   Re: Orig. Boxes, 95% off !!* (read terms)

(...) Actually, you're right, it is still "messing with the price guide". However, most boxes were listed at the average previous sales price. I figured leaving them at that price I would mess much less with the price guide than selling them at 95% (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-03, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Orig. Boxes, 95% off !!* (read terms)

(...) Doesn't your proposed procedure directly "mess with the price guide" by reporting false information into the record? If you can't sell the boxes within an acceptable timeframe at full price then their real value to you is what you are able to (...)   Knockoffs for the Toy Box?

  Re: 10$ S&H ???

(...) I have to agree with Michael on this one. There are some e-bay retailers who don't have the time to pack their own boxes. They rely on 3rd party services to pack up their shipments to their customers. I guess I get the same feeling on Ebay (...)   Re: 10$ S&H ???

Well my take on this was you thought the 'quote' was ok, before you knew the breakdown so forgot you found out and let it slide. You agreed that the shipping was ok and paid it so turning that into a negative feedback would be considered pretty (...) (23 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.market.shipping)

  Re: 10$ S&H ???

(...) His letter said simply that shipping quote to Israel for Airmail Parcel Post is $42.40. I thought that this is the cost, and obviously if that's the case I wouldn't be able to get a much better deal as I think 93$ is a fair price for the set. (...)
