End of Clearance Stock? —Mike Walsh
Frank Filz and I were discussing some observations we made at several of the local Wal-Mart stores here in the Raleigh area. It seems that some of the Wal-Mart stores had large stocks of items on clearance that "disappeared" all of the sudden. While (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) Yes. I thought maybe the blimps got marked down in the Kentwood WalMart and someone snarfed them, but they sure disappeared. Ditto for the Advent Calendars... The combo pack seems stuck at 14, I finally gave in and bought 2 (for which Mike S (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) Nah, I even broke my own rules and bought some stuff at a local Wal-Mart last night. Surprised that anything was left considering all of the other Knoxville-area Legomaniacs probably have 10x the free time I have and a lot lower (higher?) (...)         Re: End of Clearance Stock? —David C. Pyatt
My Wal-Mart had close to 25 Air Zep's for forever at $9... Friday there was 1 minus the tail for $5... no sign of the others...      (...) That is to say all our Super Wal-Mart has... of course personally we have done a "little" better with a couple of other Technic sets from Ames, but generally the best stores locally are over an hour away :( (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)

Re: End of Clearance Stock? —Ray Sanders
I have wondered about this as well. My take (as previously stated) is that WMs operate on a multi-level price-control scheme. Top level is corporate (Bentonville AR), followed by regional offices, then the store. Corp has to decide what each store (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) This DOES happen, and if it does and you're not there on the day it happens you miss out. I know this because I've been lucky enough to happen upon those random sidewalk sales or huge markdowns just as they started (or right after) and clear (...)     Ray Sanders wrote in message <38A7C416.C15AFC0@svic.net>... (...) I have one more scenario to add. A Fred Meyer's manager told me that if a Lego set doesn't sell at 50% he donates it to charity. He can take the full value as a tax write off. His (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)
