Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Ray Sanders
Interesting... This exposes a market operation that lego sales have not entered into much. Where there is product readily available in some places and demand in others (at an unknown price point). If would be nice if there was a demand oriented (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.market.theory)

The company I work for, CommerceRoute ((URL) writes software that is designed to enable this kind of digital market. I'll print this message and take it to the Powers That Be to see if such an application can be quickly developed. Paul Sinasohn (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Brickbay's wanted page has the ability to enter a set, quantity, and a price you are willing to pay. You can't see what people are willing to pay though. But the structure is already there (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Steve Chapple
(...) Because of that, I don't know how well it would work in BrickBay. You could tell there was demand for a lot of 7151s, but at what price? In fact, you'd be better off - if you had the time - to buy them if they were say 50% off, and part them (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Ray Sanders
(...) Yes, you are correct, but I believe that it is lacking. Here's how I would envision it working... The existing auction model (ebay, et al) is a seller with product being 'pushed' into the market. I'm thinking of something where a buyer wants (...)    (...) believe (...) It's interesting that what everyone is describing here is basically a "stock market". The bit with a buyer stating the qty and price they are willing to pay is the same as issuing a "Limit Buy Order" on the stock market. The (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Steve Chapple
(...) You're in the right ball park, but it's a commodity market. I can't believe I haven't been involved in a discussion like this before. One of the aspects of LEGO that appeals to me is the commodity market angle - I get to buy and sell LEGO. (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Ray Sanders
(...) The day that I wake up and hear Lego 'futures' being quoted on CNNfn or CNBC, I think I'm gonna turn off the tellie and go back to bed. ;) and all I was trying to do was make the buying and selling of clearanced Legos a more efficient (...)       (...) Gee I hope no one shorts the PCC! (it's pretty short already compared to the prototype) Steve is right, it's analogy, but not a perfect one. As it happens, the auction has ended, the first copy went for 202.49. I had meantime been selling (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Kyle D. Jackson
(...) You'd probably have to explain to me the difference... Is it that stocks are paper shares of ownership in a company, whereas commodities are trading actual physical items? I was going to put commodities, but only because it sounded better :] (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: level of interest in 7151 / Sith ? —Larry Pieniazek

LEGO Commodity Market (was Re: level of interest in 7151?) —Steve Chapple
(...) Basically - Think of gold or wheat or oil or cattle or ... The wheat and cattle will eventually be turned into a hamburgers and sold. You're an oil consumer when you fill up your gas tank.
