Well, that line only occurs twice in 2300 lines, and both of them have
to do with placing bids.  The way this script seems to deal with
things is that it literally regards your initial posting of an item as
a bid (note on the bid list that you're there).

Definitely not the way we tend to think of things, but that's how it
handles it.

Here are the relevant sections.  I don't claim to know enough about
Perl (yet) to create an outcome that would only result from someone
posting an item, but maybe some can.

################## max bidding w/ raise bid add-on ##################

print NEWITEM
"\n$form{'ALIAS'}\[\]$form{'EMAIL'}\[\]$bidmax\[\]$timenum\[\]$form{'ADDRESS1'}
\[\]$form{'ADDRESS2'}\[\]$form{'ADDRESS3'}\[\]$form{'BID'}";
close NEWITEM;
if ($form{'ALIAS'} eq $lastbid[0]) {
print "$thetime<BR><BR>$form{'ALIAS'}, your Proxy Bid has been
<B>raised to \$$form{'BID'}</B> on $title (item # $
form{'ITEM'})<BR>Your current bid is: <B>\$$bidmax</B>
$reservemessage<BR>You may want to print this notice as con
firmation of your bid.<P>Go <A
HREF=$ENV{'SCRIPT_NAME'}\?$form{'CATEGORY'}\&$form{'ITEM'}>back to the
item</A>\n";
}
else {
print "$thetime<BR><BR>$form{'ALIAS'}, your bid has been placed on
$title (item # $form{'ITEM'})<BR>Your current b
id is: <B>\$$bidmax</B> $reservemessage<BR>Your maximum bid of
\$$form{'BID'} will be used by our system to bid on
your behalf up to your specified amount.<BR>You may want to print
this notice as confirmation of your bid.

Wonder if this is trailing off into .geek or .theory?

Also, when you post a lot your conf says "as confirmation of your bid" instead of "your lot" There is a lot of funkyness with the fonts, that's for sure, the same line of menu options is different font styles in different places. And overall it (...) (25 years ago, 16-Aug-99, to lugnet.market.auction)
