I am interested in seeing the similarities and differences in these
Metroliner add on cars that three of you- Cary, Frank and Mike - have built.
As for too many Metroliners... well how could that be :-) ...

Sheree, so far I am a mere copycat. I've made two identical club cars and
six nearly identical 'middle' Metroliner cars. These and my original four
cars give me twelve to contribute to the show train.

My current passion is copying Reinhard "Ben" Beneke's 'SNOT' grain cars (the
ones with the log-wall pieces on their sides.) I started by trying to copy
the idea, not being able to find a picture, and soon gave up. I couldn't see
how the log wall pieces could be attached to a wagon plate. I had lunch with
Mike Walsh afterwards, who mentioned that he though Technic was involved.

I got an 'Aha!', because the missing distance in my design was a half-brick,
which is the thickness of Technic half-beams. That worked fine -- later,
with Mike's help, I found Ben's pictures, and found that his solution was
quite different (and vastly superior) to mine. I had forgotten that his were
working models (they dump!)

Do you have the address bookmarked?  If so, I would appreciate your posting
it for me.

So far I've made 9 7/8ths of these cars, four in white, two in black, and 3
7/8ths in brown (Mike, Frank, got any brown 1x1 bricks (8), 1x2 tile
w/grille (3), or 1x2 plate with bar (5) to trade?) My cars are a little
shorter than Ben's, and do not open on the bottom. I also learned the
importance of having a false bottom with these cars. Without it, they hold
way more 1x1 rounds than I have -- and I thought I had a lot.
I had fun
today creating the illusion of heaps of gold and silver in the cars without
a ton of parts.

Cary

I am looking forward to seeing your cars!  Even with the best descriptions I
have problems visualizing them in all their glory.

take care,
sheree
