I like this idea a lot it would promote the layout better at a 3-foot height.
PNLTC has this to say about tables with directions on how to build,
http://www.pnltc.org/Modular_Table.html . They mention a table holding 9 32 x
32 baseplates witch is the same as 4 lg. Baseplates, but I like your idea of a
longer modular table better. And I dont think it makes much difference as to
6 or 8 studs I think it would only make a difference as to what you are
building.

| (...) The only real difference is clearances on tunnels and that sort of thing. (no point in tearing up a whole section to move a row of bricks by one stud.
