Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

It might be worthwhile posting some of the ideas here to lugnet.castle. I don't think it's wise to crosspost the whole discussion because it would get sidetracked, but there have been some great ideas flying about which I happen to be catching (...)   Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) I don't know that we have any standards but there seem to be a lot of the 16x32 tan baseplates around (I have at least 10 and I think Dave said he has a similar number). I think these work well for building the town on. It gives a more worn (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) And standards. Do we want to use thin or thick baseplates? And should each 'unit' have a standard size so that we can fit them together easily? I guess we could use mixtures of thin and thick plates to show that the land isn't perfectly (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) I used red 1x2 plates, red 1x1 round plates, etc in my butcher's shop. Of course, I was also constrained by space (trying to showhorn them into the windshield-coolers)... Bigger pieces of meat might well be appropriate for a medieval setting. (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) Just thinking on this-- a side of ham-- a brown 2x2 cylinder, a 1x1 brown cylinder, and a 1x1 round plate for the 'bone' coming out of the bottom (or top) of the 2x2 cylinder... I wonder if that would come out looking in any way like a slab of (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

How about: 1. Cooper (Barrel Maker) ! 2. A stackade or some similar public humiliation penance 3. Stonemasons Shop (people levelling/chiseling large stone blocks smooth ??) 4. Some indeterminite Building under construction (large brown support (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) Only problem is that we could only serve Horse, Kaddu, and Polar Bear. :-) (...) I was thinking of including some of these in my market. I have already built a Flower Shop for the market and was considering an Armory as well although as I have (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

Ok, so far (although recently it looks like the conversation has died down) we've seemed to agree that we'd probably at least like a castle and a town for the NELUG castle display at the Construction Site (see prior messages for history).. To date, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

  meeting opportunity

I will be in the Boston area Monday and Tuesday January 10,11 2000. If anyone wants to get together I should be available Monday evening and possibly Sunday evening (depending on wether I go up early on Sunday instead of Monday morning). KL (25 years ago, 3-Jan-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) Hi Eric and everyone else at NELUG, Your ideas for TCS sound great! Please tell me when you're planning on doing this, I'd love to see it! Also if you're missing some soldiers for your battles I have soldiers from 6090 and 6097 to contribute, (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

<snip lots of good ideas (...) I guess we can make room for a Barbarian Horde :-). It would work well with the new 2000 sets anyway. (...) I would say that at the moment we need a little of everything although the only castle that has been mentioned (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) Actually... I like that! (...) Yep! Definitly a good idea... I could easily contribute a Bull's Attack, 2 Catapult Crushers, 2 Axe carts, and the little siege vehicle from 6098 as well... (not to mention 11 Moo Men...) Plus any more that I (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) I guess the only thing that worries me about King Leo's Castle is is it going to be underscaled compaired to the rest of the city? I really don't know so any input there would be helpful.   Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) Hmm...I think these two have the most possibility. Maybe one big castle, being beseiged by an enemy army, that is guarding the approach to the town. In the town, life goes on as usual...for now... (...) With the idea above we could use King (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

Mindstorms spirit.ocx programming = RCX ASM coding?

I haven't looked at programming the RCX with Visual Basic or other MS Win languages via the spirit.ocx control, but someone (sorry -- I'm terrible with remembering names!) at the NELUG meeting asked me why people seem to like NQC when they could be (...)   Re: NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

(...) My vote would be for 2,3,and 4 combined (maybe even 5 too, but that might be tough to squeeze in): A large castle on one end... elevated, and toward the rear of the display, kind of on that "hillside" type style. I'm picturing it towards the (...) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.org.us)

NELUG Castle Display at TCS Brainstorm...

All followups to LUGNET.ORG.US and LUGNET.LOC.US.MA.BOS (because that is where TCS is). As most of you know many of us in NELUG are going to work on a Window Display at The Construction Site in Waltham MA ( www.constructiontoys.com ). We hope to (...)   Re: New Castle TCS Window Project (was Re: NELUG meeting report from 12/16/1999)

I think we are starting to get some Ideas and I think I will probably start a dedicated thread for this project very soon. (...) I like this idea a lot (...)   Re: gear tooth counts

(...) Just a side note here: The old style bevel gear has 14 teeth, which matches the old style differential, with 28 teeth. This gives a 1:2 gear ratio when driving the differential with the bevel gear. Fredrik (25 years ago, 19-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.technic)

  gear tooth counts

A follow-up on something that came up at the last NELUG meeting -- Looks like the conical gear has 16 teeth (plus the itty bitty grip teeth), and it's the old bevel gear that was the oddball with 14 teeth. (URL) (25 years ago, 18-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.technic)
