Just a side note here: The old style bevel gear has 14 teeth, which
matches the old style differential, with 28 teeth.  This gives a 1:2
gear ratio when driving the differential with the bevel gear.

A follow-up on something that came up at the last NELUG meeting -- Looks like the conical gear has 16 teeth (plus the itty bitty grip teeth), and it's the old bevel gear that was the oddball with 14 teeth. (URL) (25 years ago, 18-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.technic)
