While I could only be there on Thursday, before the show actually opened,
I knew just from the comments I heard from other contributors that it was
going to be a hit. I am available to help on the Hayward show and can commit
(or be committed).
I hate to say it but Legos beg to be touched by kids. So the plastic is a
good idea(almost every other display had them). I like the duplo's idea and
have access to a bunch of them(zoo theme). You only have to look at the
pictures to see that every childs eyes are alight with Lego. We can all
understand. We should also look into a skirt for the tables(either a cheap
plastic/paper thing or some sheets bought for just these occasions).
I also like the idea of Lego displays at different functions(historical
days, asian festivals, etc)

As an example, I think that working the booth all day is hard on a
person, and we should consider working in shifts. I also think that
we should have had a few more folks around the booth. (With just two,
it was too hard to talk to visitors, and still watch for trouble on
all four sides of the layout...once 3-4 folks were there in the
afternoon, things seemed to work better, in my opinion.) So, for
future shows, we probably ought to have more involvement by other
club members, signing up for booth duty. How many folks would be
interested in general? How many folks could commit to the Hayward show?

I have high hopes that we will find more members through our efforts
at NMRA. We got one new member during the weekend (Hello Healdsburg! :-)
There are a couple promising folks in S.F, and another in S.J., plus
a possible person in Chico...and these are just train folks! (Do we want
to consider setting up a display at another type of gathering, to look
for LEGO fans in other communities? Maybe a Ninja display at the annual
Japanese Festival, or taiko drumming competition?? :-)

(...) When the GMLTC displayed at the 1999 NMRA show in St. Paul, we received nothing but support from the "real" model railroaders. They would ask questions, make comments, point out mistakes (yea, we're not perfect!), and seemed genuinely (...) (24 years ago, 7-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

John Gerlach says: (...) <snip> (...) I have to agree with this. I don't like the idea of plexiglas. After all, they are LEGO toys! Well, the NMRA show is now behind us. Kudoes to GMLTC and PNLTC who paved the way for LEGO Train Clubs (even if they have set the bar *very high* for those that folllow them.;-). Many 'regulars' from the NMRA circuit remembered them, and commented (...) (24 years ago, 7-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)
