Huw? when you say "shattered internally" what
are you seeing there? broken seals or fractured
ABS parts ?

The part inside the cylinder at the top that takes the pressure of the
compressed spring is obviously not man enough for the job because it cracks
and leaves bits of ABS inside the cylinder.

As Huw says, the black piece of plastic, that prevents the spring from dropping into the clear cylinder, breaks up. This renders the damper completely useless. As soon as my original replacements arrived, I placed them in a compressed position, to (...) (25 years ago, 15-Nov-99, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.loc.uk)

Hi, Jonathon? Are you saying the "replacment" cylinders also "broke" after use ? Huw? when you say "shattered internally" what are you seeing there? broken seals or fractured ABS parts ?
