Re: Fierce warrior names —Yuki Sasaki
(...) There's basically no difference between Zenkai and ZENKAI to us. We may not recognize some of the words you listed above as Japanese (e.g. Hankai, Sokkazan & daikatsu) without seeing them written in Chinese characters and hearing them in a (...)         Re: Fierce warrior names —Todd Lehman
(...) OK, great! (...) Oh, hmm. Well, the meaning I wanted for Zenkai was "complete destruction." Is that more of an obscure meaning for the word? BTW, do you happen to know of any really excellent super-great Japanese-English dictionaries on the (...) (25 years ago, 7-Feb-00, to lugnet.loc.jp)

Re: Fierce warrior names —Yuki Sasaki
(...) I don't use japanese-english dictionaries very much, so I don't know. (...) Since 'chokugeki' simply means "direct hit" without any references to directionalities, the warrior with that name could be the one who either gives or receives the (...)          Re: Fierce warrior names —Yuki Sasaki
(...) Oh, for this meaning, we would rather use the three words that follow in the list. You see, dictionaries do not list the frequencies of the uses, so some of the words you see in dictionaries are not even used very much. So, if you name your (...)          Re: Fierce warrior names —Todd Lehman
(...) Aha! OK! (...) I like it! BTW, does the softer sound of "mu" (as opposed to more plosive phonemes like ka or ga or zu) subtly imply that such a name might be somewhat insidious? -- that is, such that an attacker might not learn Muteki's true (...)           Re: Fierce warrior names —Yuki Sasaki
(...) That's an interesting observation. I never thought the sound "mu" could make the words sound less powerful or strong. In the word "muteki", "mu" represents "void" or "nothingness", and it's a strong word/morpheme. But if this word sounds (...) (25 years ago, 12-Feb-00, to lugnet.loc.jp)

Re: Fierce warrior names —Jason Catena
(...) Well, I've used "Jeffrey's Japanese<->English Dictionary Server" ((URL) with much success. It can give you either romanji or kanji translations, and does partial word searches. It has those little notations (an and vs for example), as well as (...) (25 years ago, 3-Apr-00, to lugnet.loc.jp)
