Hi all
Please excuse this OT post, but Im planning a three weeks vacation in
Canada with my family this summer and Im looking for suggestions.
Period is July 27 August 17. Our not yet final program says we will spend
one week in Toronto, visiting the city and the surrounding area; second and
third week in BC and Alberta, visiting Vancouver, Victoria, and, most of
all, the Rockies (Okanagan valley, Banff, Jasper
).
Any tip is very welcome, either about places to visit or about
accommodations, or even about links to good internet resources. Our group is
made of two families, both having two children (age range 7-11), and for
this reason we dont want to change location every day and pass a lot of
time travelling. We rather plan to spend at least 2 or 3 days in every place
we visit.
We will visit the big cities and spend some days there, but we do prefer
quite, secluded places rather than crowded and busy towns, so our ideal
accommodations are bungalows, small lodges or chalets immersed in the
nature, possibly good starting points for walks and horse-rides, canoeing
and fishing.
The fact that a place is "famous" is not important at all for us. I included
the Banff area in the tour because I read is a really extraordinary area,
even though theres much tourism. But Im open to suggestions about other
places, maybe less renowned but nice, quite and not crowded.
From what weve been reading about Canada during the last weeks, we cant
wait to be there. Seems to me more a place where I would like to LIVE than
one for a vacation :-)
Last but not least, I would LOVE to meet some of you Canadian AFOLS in
Toronto and Vancouver. As soon as I have the dates finalised, I will post
them here to see if we can arrange an evening together.
Thanks in advance for your help
Ciao
Mario

I'm sure there will be a lot more replies by more qualified people, but here's my two cents: If you're in Toronto, you probably could spend at least one or two days to visit the CN Tower and downtown Toronto items like the Royal Ontario Museum (...) | (...) Hi Mario! I know you don't plan on visiting this part of the country, but I feel obligated to make a sales pitch for the Atlantic region. If you want to get a feel for the diversity of Canada, you must visit some or all of Newfoundland, Nova (...) (23 years ago, 10-Apr-02, to lugnet.loc.ca)

| For the benefit of the 7-11 age group, I'd have to suggest the Ontario Science Center. I used to practically live there in the summers when I was that age. For the adults (and children to a lesser extent) I'd suggest you give a good look at the (...) (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.loc.ca)

| Here is what you can do in Calgary and surrounding areas: Calgary Calgary tower- breakfast; in a good sunny day, you can see the mountain and the whole calgary for $10.95 for adult and 1/2 price for kid. If you have a party of over ten, they waive (...) (23 years ago, 14-Apr-02, to lugnet.loc.ca)
