In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Richie Dulin
Ahoy! I noticed TRU Chatswood still had a few of these left at the pre-Christmas price of $A109, and after umming and ahhing for a while I decided to purchase one. I knew its reputation as the worst of the large ships, its dinky battle damage (...) (22 years ago, 20-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.pirates, lugnet.reviews)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Ross Crawford
(...) I also note that the rigging of the sails in the RBR is much better, and have modified my AF accordingly. Anyone who wants to be in on Brikwars and doesn't have a ship, I can bring it if you want. You'll have to provide the crew, though. BTW, (...) (22 years ago, 21-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: LUGFEST Accomodation ( was Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)) —Ross Crawford
(...) Ta. So who's coming? Do we have a show of hands? Currently, it looks like just Paul B & I from Vic - and that's not certain yet either! Who else will be there? And does anyone want to get together somewhere for a bite (or whatever) on Saturday (...) (22 years ago, 23-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: LUGFEST Accomodation ( was Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)) —Ross Crawford
(...) Oh, and does anyone (who's going) want a *pile* of blue 1x2 bricks with corrugated sides? ROSCO (22 years ago, 23-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: LUGFEST Accomodation ( was Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)) —Richie Dulin
(...) I can't think of a specific application at the moment.... but I'd be happy to swap them for a similar number of plain blue 1x2 bricks if they'd be of more use to you. (How many's in a 'pile' 50? 100? 200?) Cheers Richie (22 years ago, 24-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: LUGFEST Accomodation ( was Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)) —Kerry Raymond
(...) Unfortunately count me out. I've had a bit of a bad time in the last week due to a death in my family, so I'm just not feeling up to gallavanting off to Sydney this weekend. Still I am looking forward to next time! Kerry (22 years ago, 23-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Richard Parsons
In lugnet.loc.au, Richie Dulin writes in praise of RBRs and rightly so. Its a lemon of a ship, a sodden, gap jointed, high riding, under-gunned, badly strung tub, destined for Davey Jones' Locker on her first encounter with anything more (...)          Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Pete White
(...) Just browsing through an Austral/Asian 1996 (in)box catalogue where the names differ from the Lugnet set reference (I know, I know...old news) anyway... 6280 - A/A : The Galleon "Santa Cruz" 6280 - LDB : Armada Flagship 6279 - A/A : Cap'n (...)      (...) The translator was either a NESBian OR a real estate agent in a past life. pete.w (note: NESB = Non English Speaking Background) (22 years ago, 22-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.pirates)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Richie Dulin
(...) I suspect NESBian*: no real estate agent with his/her salt would have neglected to mention the 'leafy surrounding', the 'exclusive entrance' or the 'potential to extend'. Cheers Richie *now there's a word with potential! (22 years ago, 22-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I prefer NESBitt. :) However, thanks for reminding me that I have 8 or 9 of these lying around MISB--I intend to open a few today! Perhaps I will see what MOCs can be made...(stop laughing. I can hear you laughing.) best LFB (22 years ago, 22-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Pete White
(...) I had a friend in primary school called Nesbitt, but he wasn't a Nesbian :^) Careful Lindsay, you will be inhaling 1996 vintage air. With 8 or 9, you could build a cave complex, keep an eye out for B52s. pete.w (22 years ago, 22-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290) —Richie Dulin
(...) [snip] (...) I've made some minor changes and added some sails. I used the RBR sails as templates for the topsails and the gaff, used an Armada Flagship lanteen as a template for the jib, and extrapolated the mainsails from the RBR topsails. (...)
