Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Kerry Raymond
(...) I agree it's a fine line but you have put your finger on the nub of the problem: a stamp is a receipt. If GST was charged on the service and not on the stamps, then buying a stamp would simply be a receipt fo advanced payment received by (...) (23 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Deidre Rushton Brumby
More on this international/domestic stamp thing: There was a changeover period which expires about now, where you could freely interchange International and Domestic stamps without penalty. This has been extended for another month or so. Then it all (...) (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

In lugnet.loc.au, Deidre Rushton Brumby writes: snip..snip (...) Shouldn't this be the other way...since you have paid GST on domestic stamps already, why would you pay it again to use them for export. But if you bought International Stamps and used (...)          Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Deidre Rushton Brumby
(...) Yeah, I had to think about that for a bit too but it does make sense (it'll give you a headache though!). If postage OS is worth $1, GST free, then if you put a $1 domestic stamp on, you've actually only paid 90-91 cents for the postage and (...) (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Kerry Raymond
(...) A fool or a person who doesn't have the time to go to a post office, or someone without easy access to a post office. I buy books of 45c stamps and use them on everything. Admittedly, I am usually paying too much, e.g. I put 4 x 45c stamps (...) (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Peter White
(...) Yep, that's much clearer :^) (...) Yep, just send her already used ones inside the package (or sell them to her, with GST added) pete.w (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Ross Crawford
(...) But I would have thought Aust Post would have to charge GST on the portion of the service they provide, ie from posting point to international freight terminal (or maybe to terminal at other end?). So that a domestic stamp should attract 10% (...) (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Mark Harrison
Hi Deidre, Being an ex stamp collector like yourself, I've wondered what happens when you use a postage stamp that was released prior to the introduction of the GST, ie., there wasn't any difference between domestic and international stamps then. (...) (23 years ago, 17-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Ross Crawford
(...) use (...) there (...) I (...) I guess Aust Post would be within their rights to demand the extra before they'll deliver it, or make you put 10% more stamps on, though whether they would or not is another question. But should you pay GST on the (...) (23 years ago, 17-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: bizarre changes to postage stamps due to GST —Deidre Rushton Brumby
(...) As far as I'm aware there is no distinction between pre and post GST domestic stamps, so after the new cut off date (March 4th) you'd still have to put an extra 10% postage on for international mail using old domestic stamps. You can exchange (...) (23 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
