*** How much memory is in the brick? (compared to RCX) ***

Two thirds the memory (4k compared to 6k for program download "with our
standard firmware"). And it's persistent: because it's stored in EEPROM, you
can remove the batteries and come back years later to find your program is
still there in good shape.

According to an e-mail I received from Michael Anderson regarding the
Spybotic brick there is

"4k EEPROM for persistent program storage (256 bytes available for general use)"

To me this sounded like only 256 bytes were available for downloaded
programs (i.e., general use rather than firmware use).  I hope I'm wrong.

You will have to excuse me in this info gathering process... robotics aren't
really my strong point, and I am simply relaying info from those who know
what they are talking about. I got a few bits of info back:

EEPROM: There is a total of 4k available. We reserve 256 bytes for general,
non-program use (READ-WRITE), such as persistent Spybot information (e.g.
motor setup or a self-controlled data log) and the rest (3.75k) is used for
downloading programs and data (READ-ONLY). There is nothing to be gained by
exchanging the circuit for another circuit with a higher capacity (as one
asks) because access is controlled from ROM.

IR: Yes, a Spybot can send RCX/Scout messages and an RCX 2.0 (possibly also
an RCX 1.x with 2.0 firmware - effective range may be shorter) can send
Spybot messages, just like it can send LEGO Bionicle Manas control messages.

The Spybots use the same 3-channel RC protocol as the LEGO Bionicle Manas

Hope this helps!

That is great, but can it program my VCR? :-)

Does this mean that the RCX 2.0 has a greater IR range than the RCX 1.x due
to hardware differences?

Does the new IR RC Car use the same protocol as the Bionicle Manas as well?

Jude
