I think the reason Jake is more apt to respond to the questions on FBTB is
due to the nature of that forum: it's like a reading time for the children
where he is treated like Superman. The preadolescents dote on Jake. Also,
from my observation of the forum, the questions are basic and often go
unanswered (as they do here) or are responded to with blanket non-answers
concerning trade secret protection. And, as I understand it, Jake (in his
official capacity) is limited to a single channel on FBTB as is the case here.

At any rate, I'm really taken aback by what folks are posting in regard to
Suzanne's question, especially that anyone should think that we have
offended TLC in some way.

I thought it was pretty much understood that through TLC's eyes AFOLs are
strictly a market (an insignificant market at that) and nothing more. Their
involvement with us will always be reduced to their ultimate desire for our
money. That is all. They do not care if we like the company or like how they
conduct themselves as long as we are willing to buy the product and help
their bottom line. And we can't help ourselves but do that.

It seems to me that many of the questions asked of TLC on LUGNET, whether
needlessly barbed or a little forward, are honest. One of the reasons some
of us participate and ask questions is because we have invested tremendous
amounts of money, time and passion in this hobby to a degree that it is a
significant part of our lifestyle. As such, we feel entitled to know how TLC
is going to affect something so personal to us and we expect them to make
use of the communication conduit that was specifically made for this
(lugnet.lego).

And it started that way, but for some time now the only things TLC has
posted have been marketing announcements and sales ploys. Given this current
direction, I think what is being asked here is if TLC has a responsibility
to acknowledge us outside of a predatory relationship. For them I can't help
but think that it has been decided that only the slightest, if any effort,
is needed to curry our enthusiasm and open our wallets.

I'm having trouble believing that their lack of regard for answering our
concerns is our mistake, as if we caused it. Maybe there has been some
bitterness from us correlating to the perception that they are ignoring us.
And I do not blame the LUGNET administration for expressing their
frustration openly given the promises to them that TLC has reneged on while
giving attention to entities who compete with LUGNET.

TLC is a business and should expect to be held critically by its customers.
I guarantee no one on their side is smarting over anything said here. But,
however one chooses to see who's at fault or to believe that the company has
it's feelings hurt, it's insane to think that we should have to fawn and
grovel to get TLC's attention.

Well, I've spoken my peace. But I want to add that giving LEGO Direct the
ability to post group-wide would give them leeway to spam every group. Best
to keep it contained. Better reasons can be found here:

(...) WOW... and then I wonder why Lego only post 'marketing-related' stuff here (lugnet). We (adults) can WORSE than the kids on FBTB. Over there when LD says it can't answer, the general felling is okay we understand. Here, if Lego doesn't answer (...) (22 years ago, 6-Jun-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

What Jim has stated was done so perfectly that it doesn't need any "me too"s, but here is my total agreement with his words anyway. And I think that the administrative reasons for creating this newsgroup and also limiting official TLC access to (...) (22 years ago, 6-Jun-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Jake, Why are you answering people's questions on FBTB, but not LUGNET? I ask because the lugnet.lego.direct group was created for open dialogue, yet LD's posts are now rare and limited to marketing announcements. -Suz Suzanne Rich LUGNET Admin (...)
