  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Equally fascinating as the final price, is to look at the bidder list, where each dropped out at and the variety of countries represented. Ray (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) rkjeld...? A list of shame apparently. Is that a shill bid? -- Hop-Frog (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  $2,137.00

I am amazed at this price.... (URL) I love capitalism.... -- Drew Croke Proprietor, Lugged Mountain Outfitters (URL) (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) That's not clear but the pattern displayed by that bidder doesn't look like shilling to me. (...) Not following you here, Richard. I was proud to have bid in this auction. The final price was too rich for me, but I would have been even prouder (...) (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Yeah, I don't care for it, and I was trying to vaguely insult those that do. (...) It's good of you to give me the benefit of the doubt, but alas... -- Hop-Frog (the unworthy) (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Actually, I'm sort of confused as to what exactly that "iron horse" (ferroequus, whatever...) dude was doing - why did he successively outbid himself? Pedro (who knows virtually nothing about the fantastic world of auctions) (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Maybe somebody bidded higher and so Ebay raised his bid until the bid went over his Maximum Bid? John Kruer (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Oh... I see. So this is done automatically. It's a bit of a shame that the "competing" bidders in such bids are not displayed - I'd sure love to know the details of this "fight"... ;-) Thanks, John! Pedro (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) If you look carefully, you will see that the higher bids are older, and thus were "proxy" bids (where you bid what you really think you want to pay for the item, then the system submits the lowest possible bid for you, and then automatically (...)   Re: $2,137.00

(...) Got it! (...) That would really be useful. I mean, just to satisfy my curiosity... :-^ (...) Most convenient, the whole system. Does it work as intended, never creating any sort of issues? Thanks, Frank! Pedro (23 years ago, 12-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Frank explained the mechanics, as for the motivation I speculate he was trying to outbid the current high bidder but by just a little. That's a sign of indecisiveness, inexperience, or possibly bid shielding. Hope that helps. FUT market.theory (...) (23 years ago, 13-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.market.theory)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) [...] (...) It tends to drive up the final price, in my opinion. I think it's better to wait until the last minute (or in some cases, the last 10 seconds) of an auction before submitting your true highest bid... --Bill. XFUT: (...)   Re: $2,137.00

(...) ferroequus was never a high bidder. Here's the play by play: 1. dansoere (0) bid $60.00 on Apr-02-02 12:02:56 <-- High Bidder 2. robertjay2002 (0) bid $51.00 on Apr-02-02 12:18:29 3. robertjay2002 (0) bid $55.00 on Apr-02-02 12:19:06 4. (...) (23 years ago, 13-Apr-02, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: $2,137.00

Some people don't like "waiting until the last minute", calling it "sniping". But I do it all the time, it keeps other people from emotionally trying to top what I realistically consider a good price. (...) (23 years ago, 13-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.theory)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Too much stress. I just "bid and forget" most of the time... I just place my bid & forget all about it. If I win, I get a little e-mail from ebay a few days later. Scott A =+= Have you inspected Arthur’s Seat yet? (URL) reasonable man adapts (...) (23 years ago, 13-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.theory)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Yes. I feel sniping is a valid technique although I don't do it myself. I think sniping really is just a way to keep your bid secret, even the fact that you plan to bid... and a way to keep your bid lower than if you started early. And if you (...)   Re: $2,137.00

(...) I completely agree...it is a bit underhanded, but how else are you going to win the bid at a "fair" price. I also agree with the assessment that proxy voting does tend to drive up the price quickly, and you end up paying more than you really (...) (23 years ago, 13-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.theory)

  Re: $2,137.00

(...) Of course if more people waited until the last minute to bid, prices overall would be lower for a couple reasons: - no bidding wars - people would forget to check the auction On the other hand, if two people really want the item, and bid their (...)   Re: $2,137.00

(...) Again, you don't need to take the time, there are technologies that will snipe FOR you without you needing to do more than just decide what your true maximum is and how close to auction end you want to cut it. No need to wait around to the (...) (23 years ago, 14-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.theory)
