It's not strange to think that IMO, but I have a suggestion: take another look
at the HP line, only this time, try to imagine it through the eyes of a 10

As an exclusively MOC builder, I wish so many cool parts came in "normal"
colors, but I always remind myself that LEGO is a toy intended for kids.
*They* will always be the primary markets for this product...

Personally, I'm not so much put out by the color as the design. As a MOC
builder, sure, I'd like to see the "regular" colors, but I recognize the
value in some irregular colors. But the real problem is design.

I always build rather rushedly. Why? I dunno. Usually I put together a set
in my lap while sitting on the floor with the set's parts scattered out in
front of me. Even buildings. On my lap. And for the 1st time ever, with *3*
different HP sets, I've had the buildings crumble apart in my lap while
making them, more than once per set. I mean, once in a while I'll
accidentally crumble a set I'm building, but usually it's because I'm
careless. Then I'm more careful with the model and it doesn't happen again
while building the rest of it. HP? Nope. The ridiculously terrible
juniorized pillar-and-no-walls system just collapses during construction.

They're not very well thought out, ugly, and built "unstrongly"(1). To a 10
year old? Yeah, it's great! Why? Cuz it says Harry Potter. And it's new. And
I don't have that set yet. And look at that cool ______ piece! Yeah, they've
got appeal, but they *could* have a lot more. They could have kept it
*juniorized* and still had more appeal.

Doesn't mean I think they're terrible. They're not. I do, after all, own one
of each set. And maybe I'll buy more, who knows... but I'm in no rush-- I
just wish I were...
