I agree with James rankings.  I added a few more points.  Personally, I'm not
convinced we've run into Harry's permanent love interest (so most of my
additional points fall into the "Against" category).  My guess is that Rowling
will introduce this person in a later book, possibly the "Harry meets a new girl
and falls in love" book (if one of those gets written).  Maybe it will be a
fallen woman, who reforms from Voldemort's camp.  Those characters are always
interesting.  Too bad the red hair angle is already taken by the Weasleys (see
_Willow_).

That's an interesting twist to the situation, but I think by book 6 or 7,
Harry should know better....there is a lot of stigmatism in the books about
Muggle-bloods and Squibs....and also a lot of negativity towards DeathEaters...
only Lucious Malfoy and Professor Snape have any baggage from their previous
days with Voldemort...but we all know Malfoy (Crabbe, and Goyle) continued
alliance with Voldemort......
I am not saying that Harry is incapable of stepping into a trap like that
nor am I saying that it isn't impossible for someone in Voldemort's
camp to reform.....I'm just saying that it is probably less probable for this
scenario to happen than even Harry hooking up with Patti.....

Good try though....it had me intrigued for a couple of minutes....

We see as the books progress that Harry has an increasing interest in girls...
I would like to discuss who do you think will be number 1 on Harry's love
list? (either in book V or even beyond)

1. Cho Chang

For: Already shown interest, fellow quidditch player
Against: short relationship with Diggory, year older (hence not likely to be
in final book)
Rank: A strong starter she may have piqued early, look for a disinterested
finish, 3

Also Against: first crushes never last.  Harry already feels like he's totally
embarrassed himself with her (asking her to the dance and being turned down,
etc).  Cho is not a major character, and really isn't even much of a minor
character.

2. Fleur Delacour

For: She's (part?) Veela!
Against: now home in France? Outside chance
Rank: Flash in the pan, this girl hasn't got what it takes to catch Potter, 5

Against: 3-4 years older than Harry.  She's at least 17 in book 4, Harry's 14
(wow, he's growing up fast!).  And Harry's not interested in her.

3. Hermione Granger

For: adventures together, classmate same age, clever and beautiful (when
dressed up)
Against: Could Harry see what's under his nose? Competition with Ron (see
Ginny comments)
Rank: A good round of pluses but beaten by a better combination, 2

Also Against: Rowling has made it pretty clear that Hermione and Ron have
deep-seated (and mostly well-hidden) feelings for each other.

4. Ginny Weasley

For: Relative of best friend, also clever, If Harry goes with G, leaves H
free for Ron - doesn't work other way around.
Against: relative of best friend, possible hero-worship, younger woman (but
only by a year)
Rank: This girl has it all, family, damesel in distress, strong interest in
Potter and finally better plot connections, 1

Also Against: she's got no character in the books, except for being terribly shy
and having a severe crush on Harry.

5. Parvati Patil

For: date to the Yule? ball, classmate,
Against: she enjoys divination?
Rank: dispite having no obvious drawbacks equally no outstanding pluses, 4

Big Against: Harry's completely not interested in her.

(...) That brings up a serious quibble (is that an oxymoron?) I had with the ending to The Goblet of Fire (besides the book title): During the climatic confrontation, Harry heard names named. Why did he not tell Dumbledore? Not that Dumbledore (...) (23 years ago, 8-May-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)
