Well, it only took one day after my posting and a very friendly person (who
asked me to keep her name off this newsgroup) from Lego Systems called me and
wanted to let me know that (this is paraphrased from memory):
"You had posted something on the Internet in a newsgroup about giving the name
of the person you spoke to at Lego to a Gary Istok and I just wanted to let
you know that Carlene ... is no longer handling the bulk purchases" (or
something to that effect).
At first, I thought they canned her for not being very helpful, but I was
mistaken. The lady I originally was dealing with was a higher up in Shop at
Home and I have now been forwarder to another person in Customer Relations (I
think). Anyway, I have a name and an address that we can send mail to asking
for bulk purchases to be allowed. I will post it after I get the person's
permission, as I don't want to upset any apple carts, since I still need my
apples.
What I did get from this is a couple of things:
#1 - Lego does read Lugnet and apparently either check it regularly or just
happened to step in the day after my post. Quite a conincidence if they just
happened upon it.
#2 - They don't want this to become bad press. This would explain switching
it to customer relations. I personally feel like we should just keep turning
up the heat until they allow bulk purchases.
I had been told that some of the pieces I wanted, they didn't know where they
came from. Well, really, they would know if they walked into their production
facility. Those big machines that eat ABS tablets and churn out BURPs and
town jr. elements, that is where the pieces I want came from.
I have been told that they are not set up to be able to fill requests like
mine. I have been to the model shop in Carlsbad. Where did they get their
elements, K-Mart? I don't see them sorting bricks. They get them from Lego.
That means that they CAN fill orders like mine. It just means that they
choose to do it for the model shop and not for me, which is their choice. But
I will not be told that they can't do something like that when I cah show that
they can and have.
I have been told that the parts are not available. I will wait. I have
waited 14 years for a bunch of transparent light blue 2x4 bricks. The model
shop got them soon enough for the opening of Legoland CA.
They can keep giving excuses until they are "Maersk light blue" in the face.
People will still know the truth. That Lego can do bulk sales, but chooses
not to.
I will keep pursuing this path until I can finally get the bricks I am looking
for. When I get through to them, I will try to convince the powers that be to
open the door to all who want to purchase thousands of a specific element and
have no way to get them.
Any leads people could give me would be greatly appreciated, as I fear I am
exhausting my options rather quickly.

| What they should do is not allow trivial spare parts orders, that would run them into the ground. They should allow true bulk orders, of BOX quantities (like the boxes the modelers and MIT get). They could set a reasonable market price for these (...) (25 years ago, 24-Oct-99, to lugnet.general)

| Call me crazy, naive, or just plain stupid, but here is a thought. There are I'd say 15-20 of you out there who really want some major amouts of certain bricks.
