Parts packs being discontinued? My rep says "no" —Greg Kramer
So I've come across rumors of Lego cancelling their line of parts packs. Very disturbing, especially since they've been getting slightly better (green bricks, black roof pieces, etc). I called today and ordered a half-dozen packs, and asked the rep (...) (25 years ago, 13-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I saw it mentioned either here or on RTL (more likely here); I called either S@H or (more likely) CA. The rep I talked to immediately said that it was apparently being planned - he went to find out more and came back saying that it has been (...) (25 years ago, 13-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)

I also got confirmation they are NOT stopping them. The rumor may have come about from only certain packs being discontinued (which they do all the time, sometimes releasing the exact same or nearly exact same contents under a new number).      Well, they could focus on good parts like train parts, doors & windows, etc. rather than multiple theme packs that have little value, no good parts, that end up being phone specials. Scott Sanburn (...) (25 years ago, 17-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) This very apparent to anyone who has looked at Lego's parts pack selections in the 60's and 70's. In 1963 there were over 138 different parts packs available. What is it today, less than 20? Gary Istok (25 years ago, 18-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)

Back in '63 there was only the Town System. All 138 parts packs were for Town. Today there are about 25 or so parts packs for Town. All the rest are for the other Lego Systems (although many of the ones I include in Town can be used in other (...) (25 years ago, 18-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)
