What's the deal with 5571 Black Cat Big Rig?

I read on RTL a couple weeks back that S@H had discontinued this set.
Larry P. indicated that he'd just bought one quite recently at that
time, but noone else stepped forward to support the idea that they are
still in stock.
Then I got e-mail from someone asking if I knew where to find it
(sorry to you if you're reading this -- I erased your message right
after responding that I too was looking for 5571 -- and so couldn't
tell you the rest of this) as if it were scarce.
So last Friday I called up S@H, and asked if they still had it. She
said they had it in stock, and so I ordered one.
Since then -- last night, actually -- I've received the set and two
copies of the latest Holiday catalog, where it's still featured.
I think the scarceness at this point is a bit manufactured <shrug>.
I also think that everyone who wants the set should buy it now. I've
got (nearly) all the Model Team sets, and I'm certain that this now --
barely -- takes the spot as my favorite of the lot. It's got a great
selection (both in number and "quality") of elements, and looks to
make a very impressive model. I wonder if the set will be available
post Christmas. If it is, I'll probably save my pennies (and then
some) to get another.
This puts the Model Team sets in approximately this ranking for me
personally (the contest between 1 and 2 is VERY close):
1. 5571 Black Cat Big Rig // huge, glorious, great colors
2. 5590 Whirl N' Wheel Super Truck // colors, great helicopter
3. 5580 Highway Rig // the original, still a 'beaut'
4. 5540 Formula 1 Racer // for the bi-plane 2nd model
5. 2554 F1 Ferrari // seen one, don't have this yet
6. 5591 Mach II Red Bird Rig
7. 5541 Blue Fury
8. 5521 Sea Jet
Then the rest (in no particular order):
5510 Off Road 4x4
5550 Custom Rally Van
5581 Magic Flash
Note that I don't own or haven't seen-built 5542 Black Thunder or 5561
Big Foot 4x4, so I'm not sure how to rank them yet. I think 5542 will
make it up near 3-4-5, and 5561 will probably go with "the rest".

| (...) My take on 5561 is good source of parts, but not all that sturdy, the wheels keep falling off. I have 4 or 5, got them mostly for the red and white windows but couldn't resist building one. It's been built for 3 months now which is a while for (...) (26 years ago, 11-Nov-98, to lugnet.general)
