Re: Is it Just Me or is the RTL on its way out!?

(...) A valid concern, but not the one bugging me most right now. How will LUGNET be funded through 2025? How will it be funded through 2000? I want to plan for this. Are paying memberships coming up in the future, and if so, what kind of dues are (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  memberships

(...) Here's part of the answer to that: (URL) and if so, what kind of dues are we looking at? What kind of dues to you want to look at? It'll be very economical to join officially, but it will also include voluntary donations mechanisms if you want (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) For the record, I want to pay $x once and pay $y as a cut of what I sell using your auction software. Maybe even a fairly hefty cut. I would think that this would on (or near) the top of your priority list from the perspective of making LUGNET (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) If there was an official membership for Lugnet, would anybody that wanted to use its services have to join? What I mean is that if someone like myself just wanted to read through the news, would they have to pay and/or become a member? Greg (...)   Re: memberships

(...) No, those aren't pay-services. Everything you see anywhere on the site today is a freebie, subsidized ultimately by memberships and other things. The idea behind memberships is for unique identities, the main purpose of which is authentication (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) That works too. :) (...) It's fairly high, but getting the basic memberships ready is now at the very top (and that's got two or three sub-parts to go in simultaneously) now that the new layout is in place. (...) There have been ideas kicking (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Transfer 100 USD from my AucZILA account to prepay my lifetime membership, please. I know it's going to be worth at LEAST that much to me, maybe much more. How much more depends on where my house ends up... :-) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

Todd Lehman wrote in message ... (...) Oh no, no more Auczilla? I hope when you reach this point the Auczilla interface will soon be made available to members. Now that would be neat, Auczilla just presents the buying public one huge continuous (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

Todd Lehman wrote in message ... (...) I assume there will be some way to include links to outside pages, even if you don't want users to have the ability to link graphics onto their Lugnet pages. Frank (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Is it Just Me or is the RTL on its way out!?

I hope Todd didn't draw everyone away from rtl so he could start charging an entry fee. This never occurred to me before.....this is the advantage of a news group....free entry. Mark H. (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) If the AucZILLA interface were available to me right now, and if it also supported web bidding in addition to e-mail, and if it did what I've always envisioned (I tell it I have 10 copies of set XXXX and it spits out lots for me to approve, (...)   Re: Is it Just Me or is the RTL on its way out!?

(...) The news services here are free and will remain so. Nobody "drew" anyone from RTL. Those of us who have mostly abandoned it have done so because RTL is full of more and more bullshit nowadays. If you'd actually read what Todd has said on this (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Oh it's not going away; there will always be parts auctions of that type. They just won't typically be under that name. The long-term plan for auczilla.com doesn't have much (if anything) to do with LEGO; all of its LEGO-related assets will (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Oh-ho-ho-ho, yes. Absolutely. That's how people can link to their real homepage (if they have one) or other things on the net that strike their fancy. --Todd (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

What I like about Lugnet is that everytime I think of something usefull, it turns out its already in Todd's plan.... (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) It's also an important way to harvest links for the hierarchical links collections. That is, each time a new URL is encountered, it'll probably go onto a list of "unknown/unrecognized" URLs waiting to be described and/or categorized. For (...)   Re: Is it Just Me or is the RTL on its way out!?

(...) Couldn't have said it better myself! That 100% correct Rtl is wasted space anymore and I personally would rather pay todd for the right to post here than go free over to the RTL! Doyle (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Do you plan to have an automated cleaning of offsite links? There seem to be a bunch of broken links on the links page. (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Or even if I had to upload the inventory of the set, and then tell it how many copies, etc. Steve (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Is it Just Me or is the RTL on its way out!?

(...) Agreed, mostly. The point I was trying to make, though, is that posting here is just as free as it is there. (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Given a little warning, I'll have something set up and ready to go as soon as you do. Would you be doing controlled tests with particular people, or just opening it for testing and use? (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) This would arguably be more valuable, since it means you could easily save out the parts you buy the set(s) for. Heck, I'd be happy if it were just a brick auction place that I could run an auction at. But then again, I think anything I ran (...)   Re: memberships

  Re: memberships

(...) It would also be arguably less valuable, becuase you'd have to go through all the work of establishing the inventory, and keying it in. But requiring the auctioneer to supply the inventory also makes the whole idea more practical, because the (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: memberships

(...) Hrmmm... maybe I dreamed this, but at one time I thought it would work like this: You tell it you have 8 copies of 6097. It spits out an inventory of those sets. You mark the parts you _don't_ want (say the cauldrons and horse barding). The (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)
