At a guess, your browser submits some limited information about you that
google's using. What OS you're running, what language you prefer, your IP
address, what browser you're using. I also wouldn't be suprised if some browsers
out there spat out things like time zones or other vague bits about your
location. It's of course possible that there's some sort of spyware submitting
your info, but google is generally pretty good, I think.
If you've got Mozilla, you can get the live http headers utility, which will
tell you EXACTLY what it's sending. Then, if you clear out your cookies, they've
got nothing on you from previous visits, unless they remember your IP
specifically (which is doubtful that they'd do it that way). It won't tell you
what your *regular* browser is sending, but if the ads still appear to be well
targetted, it's a good sign that they're probably not using anything sneaky.
