I share the exact same feelings.
I've heard secondhand LEGO employees saying its a mere expansion into other
areas and won't replace the fundamental brick. I say, it has no business
bearing the LEGO name and brings shame to the wonderful system OKC designed.
LEGO is a building toy. It should encourage creativity and provide limitless
possibilities. LEGO is not an action figure company. Most action figures I'm
familiar with stifle creativity and encourage violence through their
'storytelling.'
Kids need more open-ended play mediums, not pre-fashioned action figures with a
concrete story. With LEGO System there's no right or wrong way to play, the kid
can explore. Galidor is just another fad toy, it is not timeless like LEGO, and
it makes me very sad to see a toy company I respect and love for its values
stoop to the level of producing it.
I think this is an attempt to saturate the toy market with LEGO branded items to
increase the brand visibility. Unfortunately, to me, and to many others, it
dilutes the brand. It makes LEGO more nebulous and less defined. And it denies
their roots as one of the 'good' toy companies out there. Its the Nikefication
of LEGO. :-(
Back to the brick, leave the fad marketing at home, please.
