Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

Well personally I'm a bit ticked. How many people are really glad about these new security features. Is this really necessary? As far as i see Brad's idea was the best, keep it optional, if someone feels that they are being "cloned" as I believe the (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

(...) Me, for one... (...) I think so. Maybe we need to see if Kev will do a new Brickshelf poll... I bet we'd get an overwhelming positive vote. But maybe not. FUT admin.general (or should it have been NNTP??) as this is not really a .general (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

There are some problems I have with your arguments: 1. The person who caused all of this, I believe his name was Matthew Moulton, would still be joyfully spoofing everyone the moment he found someone with this feature turned off. 2. Todd would be (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

(...) While I'm not "glad" that because of Mr Moulton it isn't quite as simple to post on Lugnet as it used to be I am glad that this security measure will in all likelihood significantly dampen (and hopefully eliminate altogether) Mr Moulton's (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Okay, I'll tell you that I don't mind the security measures. If it will help make this a better place to post without dealing with people who just want to stir up trouble, then I'm all for it. Just check out Rec.toys.lego lately to see what I mean. (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

(...) I support it one hundred percent. Since I post through the web interface, I have no problems with it at all. (...) The point isn't to protect people from being spoofed. The point is to prevent people who have been banned from hacking into the (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

(...) [snip] I'm glad for the change, although it is an inconvenience. I'm a member, but I prefer to use NNTP. If I've got something that needs to be posted in a timely manner (and I'm away from home), I can hop over to the web to post. Otherwise, I (...) (23 years ago, 21-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

I'm a NNTP user myself and only use web about once a year (if that!). I like the option idea Brad presented; I'll certainly be aware that I'm taking a greater risk. Getting philosophical, I figure I take a risk every picosecond of my life, so what's (...) (23 years ago, 22-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

(...) Gee, that's too bad. I'm not, but I'm sorry you are. (...) I am. I'm *really* glad about it. (...) I believe it is. Then again, I believe it is important to know with some degree of certainty that when I read a post from Larry or Todd or (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

(...) Is this a question, or a statement? I'm *guessing* it is a question, so I'll answer it - I think the new security features are just fine. If I read something, I want to know who posted it. If you want to play, play by the rules. If you don't (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Are that many people really glad about the security stuff?

Todd changed it again, and for the better. When you get the email asking for authentication, you can now reply to the email, rather than going to the web link to post it. Personally, I'll use the link, but I'm sure many people that were complaining (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jun-01, to lugnet.general)
