I have to agree with Lar on this one. Though most of my classic helmets are
not split, several are. Under lots of use, ie, taking the helmet off 40
times a week (this is not unrealistic. I have 2 boys and for some reason,
they have more fun rippng their minifigs apart and putting them back
together in all kinds of weird ways) will damage the older helmets at the
chin guard because that is where the seam line is from the molding. I agree
that all the classic helmets I have that I originally owned are perfect, but
I am a careful clean freak. Others are not so careful...
So, I conclude this with saying, "YES!!! I'd love to see more classic
helmets, but reality dictates that the newer style is more sturdy." We have
to remember, Lego replaces 'lost and damaged' parts for free in most
instances, so it's in their best interest to use a solid design that will
reduce calls to parts/customer service.
