I wasn't sure, but I thought that the 1x1x1 and 1x1x2 in black did not exist.
That leaves only the 1x1x2 and the 1x2x2 as existing classic
black windows/doors.

The problem is you can't poof that anything doesn't exist, but it is extremely
improbable....
(BTW: do white motor baseplates exist? Do 12-spoked classic trainwheels exist?
Both are shown in several idea books and building instructions although I doubt
them to be sold ever.)

I believe that the gray 1x2x3 classic door does NOT exist in gray.  There was • a
set on German EBAY (#352 Windmill set) that was up for auction, and the • picture
showed a white door.  The instructions (I believe) were misleading, since they
showed a gray door.  But that door (and the 1x2x2 window) were shaded gray in • the
instructions to help with the set assembly.  I believe what made this issue • more
confusing was the fact that someone (Mark Harrison I believe) bought a 352 • set,
and the seller included a gray 1x2x2 window (from the 7740 Intercity • Train???),
and said that the gray door was all mangled and was replaced with a white • door.
I question the validity of this sellers statement (I'm not questioning Mark
here).  But no one else has come forward with any other confirmation one way • or
the other.

I agree with that at 100%.

As to the other window I was questioning.  I am surprised at how rare the • 1x3x2
windows are in white to begin with.

I only know of set 313 von 1971. Since the small sills have been invented 1972
it came with the larger ones.

All that I have are of the older • varieties.
NONE have the missing window sill.  And I do have an awful lot of the classic
windows/doors.  It is possible that none of this variety exists in white,
although, I want other confirmation first.
For the Window history article, I will be discussing the fact that there are 4
different window/door types.  They are 1) the first 1957 Cellulose Acetate
windows/doors (slightly different from later windows/doors), the Cellulose
Acetate windows/doors with window sills, the ABS windows/doors with window • sills,
the ABS windows/doors of the sill-less variety (even the classic doors, large
1x6x3 windows, and 1x6x2 shuttered windows are different during this period).

What about the change in the early nineties (= version 5)? Take a look at this
comparing picture of Karl-Heinz:

More to come!

Loking forward for it!

Ben

Thanks Ben.  That would make version 5.  But I assume version 5 only applies to the
1x2x2 windows, since none of the others have been made in the 1990's?  (Or were
they?).

Maybe what I should say, rather than "they don't exist" (for classic windows), is
to say "they were probably never sold to the public".

The 1957 variety (first year for classic windows) had solid (not hollow) studs on
top.

The boxes measure about 1"x4"x6" and have pictures on the front of Kirk and his sister as childern playing with LEGO. I don't (...) (24 years ago, 15-Aug-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains)
