Did all the LEGO cannons fire by springs?  The one I have (sadly only
one...) fires with a spring, but I seem to remember a friend about 6
years ago who had several where you had to pull the "pin" back and then
flick it with a finger to make it shoot. I was wondering if any came
like this, or if it was a regular firing one where the springs were just
broken.

There was an interim cannon design in the U.S. where the spring was essentially
removed.  It can be retro-fitted with a spring to fire.  It was replaced by the
current solid one-piece cannon.  They are probably the rarest of the Lego
cannon.
