Also, I would say that our purchases are larger sets or higher volume on small
sets.

I make more than any 10 eight year olds, sure.  But those 10 kids have
10 sets of parents who probably make more than I do, and larger
extended families that, combined, certainly make more than I do.

I probably spent at least $3k, possibly much more (don't feel like
opening Quicken) on Lego sets this year.  I'm one of 3 adult fans of
Lego that I know about in the Knoxville area and I know for a fact I
outspent one of them, possibly both.  But even if all 3 of us spent
$3k each, I can almost guarantee that the kids in Knoxville as a whole
had more than $9k spent on them in Lego toys alone.  Probably 10 times
that or more.

So yeah, I can outspend any single kid's family, and probably do
outspend any 10 normal kid's families (on Lego stuff anyway - I wasn't
lucky enough to have my parents buy me hundreds or thousands of
dollars in toys every year and I assume the same is true of most
lower to middle class families), but there are a whole heckuva lot
more kids in the world than there are AFOL's. :)
