Hello! The inventoty at BrickLink claims they are white. But they are not. There is a very distinctive difference between those shields (their back, since the front is printed) and regular white parts. It's not very light grey as found in the Mosaic (...) Check out this really neat folder on Brickshelf: (URL) creator calls it "microscale" but I think most would agree it's not really microscale (smaller than minifig scale).
