Re: Public Praise for Jasper Janssen

(...) Seconded. Jasper and I did a Metroliner for RCX deal that went off without a hitch (except that he got hit with VAT on the RCX, sigh) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: To quote a scholar

(...) Well, I agree about LEGO becoming more "toy" oriented than "construction" oriented. When I was a kid, LEGO sets that built specific models were far and away the exception -- not the norm. Now it is completely inverted. "Freestyle" sets, as (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  To quote a scholar

My mad scientist friend (we've all got them, haven't we?) - a PHd student in robotics and robot design and college lecturer in Maths - had this to say after we were comparing the classic 691 Rescue Helicopter (my first set) with the pap that Lego (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

I played with one over the holidays, as my brother (who is 7) received it as an xmas present. It was great for him, but not something (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  8880 Super Car ... =? Diablo?

I finally got my 8880 Super Car, and after I was finished, I brought it into my office. Currently at my office, I have a model of the Diablo. After looking at the two, it appears that the base shape of both are EXTREMELY similar. Of course with (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: US S@H Phone Specials 1/11/99 - 1/17/99

And here I thought my FOTW was upstaged by S@H. My wife found an 8277 at Walmart for $20. The box had been opened, but not the bags inside. What was really amazing to me is that my non-Lego wife actually bought this for me despite here general (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Oooh e-mail me too. :) Or, Todd: can you set up a small mailing list just for people who want this via e-mail? It's one of the few things I'd like sent directly to my inbox. (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: When is a set a set?

Steve Bliss writes: <<SNIP>>> (...) <<SNIP again>> IMHO: a set is a set when it has everything it says in the instructions. This is including the minifig(s)because they are clearly present in the instructions. Ergo: you have one complete set and one (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

When is a set a set?

OK, here is a zen question for the Set-Purists[1] to ponder: I bought a bag of lego at a garage sale. Among other things, it included pieces and instructions for two small sets. Both sets can be built (simultaneously) from the pieces in the bag, (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)
