Write-up for the BricksWest BrikWars game

I finally finished scanning the photos and hacking together a write-up for the two-night BrikWars game we played at BricksWest 2002, and all interested parties are cordially invited to come take a look. I posted the write-up here: (URL) if you just (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

Hey thanks, that was cool, it was nice meeting you, we'll meet again when I goto a Sealug meeting! Thanks for having me in your stories too! That whole event was so fun! Cool Legomaster (...) (23 years ago, 10-Mar-02, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.org.us.sealug, lugnet.gaming)

Re: The Unsuspecting City of Brikingham

(...) I loved the civil war shop featuring authentic civil war weapons, including a bow and arrow, a katana, and a Raygun. The glass display case with the knives underneath was a very nice touch. I also nearly died seeing the rat and bags of bones (...) (23 years ago, 8-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

Rev, I dunno how I've managed to never visit your web site, you are one deranged feller (high praise). I laughed my self silly at all of your marvelous MOC's. Keep up the great work! -- Bill (...) (23 years ago, 8-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  The Unsuspecting City of Brikingham

After joining in on the fun of Mike Rayhawk's BrikWars session at BricksWest, I decided I want to try out running a BrikWars game of my own with some of my friends. Greatly inspired by Mike's teams, I created eleven of my own 9-unit armies, each (...) (23 years ago, 7-Mar-02, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.gaming, lugnet.town) !!

  Re: Pirate Game Rules Thoughts

(...) That works well for some players, but if you recall, there is always one player who hasn't even started plotting when you ask if all plotting is complete. (...) In the role playing game, winning has generally be determined by wealth. In the (...) (23 years ago, 6-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming, lugnet.pirates)

Re: Lego Car Wars, and Origins/GenCon

(...) I see it as a combination of Car Wars and Lego. The new car wars rules do seem to have an elegant method of handling movement, IMHO. On the other hand, the weapons rules and the performance should be based on the bricks and not on a (...) (23 years ago, 4-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  Re: Pirate Game Rules Thoughts

(...) I had a hard time figuring out how plotting worked from the sheet. But once plotting was explained to me it was dead simple. But then I've done Star Fleet Battles(tm) plotting which is quite complex compared to this. I think plotting adds a (...) (23 years ago, 4-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming, lugnet.pirates)

Brief trip diary and pics by SEALUGgers

For a brief BricksWest trip diary - including pictures - by a couple of SEALUGgers, check out the following webpage: (URL) special thanks to Matt Gerber, Dan Parker, Steve Jackson, Mike Rayhawk, and all the event organizers/content providers.   Re: Pirate Game Rules Thoughts

(...) My reading is pretty much in line with Chris here. But then again, I'm a metricating fool. The big problem with plotting, as I see it, is that when ships close in, independent plotting loses its connection to reality. If anything, I'd suggest (...)   Re: Pirate Game Rules Thoughts

(...) It seemed to me that getting the hang of plotting took a few turns for most people and then they could mostly do it in their sleep. When I've played, I typically had my next turn plotted long before the previous turn was resolved. Do the (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming, lugnet.pirates)

  Re: Gaming at AFOL cons

Another point re: dedicated rooms. I had dedicated a significant amount of luggage space to piratical decor, almost none of which got used because there was both no time to put it up and no place to put it. Such nonsense DOES add to the experience (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  Lego Car Wars, and Origins/GenCon

I've thought about Lego Car Wars, but my thoughts right now just run to "use Lego to build the vehicles and scenery, and then play." Which would be fun and get attention, but it's just using Lego instead of regular playing pieces . . . it doesn't (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  Re: Gaming at AFOL cons

  Re: Gaming at AFOL cons

(...) I think perhaps Matthew set the goals for BricksWest a little too high. Certainly fun was had by all, and I hope Matthew doesn't get stuck with any bills. (...) Whew. Back from Ireland - which was the trip AFTER BricksWest. Only now am I catching up on both reading and writing. I have just read the whole thread but will cast my comments as a reply to Frank's original message, with additions at the end. (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  Re: Gaming at AFOL cons

(...) The main thing I saw which could have reduced setup time would have been a simpler battlefield. At BrickFest 2000, the BrickWars game I saw had a few pieces of scenery scattered around but didn't try and cover the whole play area with studs. (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.gaming)

  Re: Gaming at AFOL cons

(...) I would have liked to have suck to less-structured pick-up games at BricksWest, but since I was picking up players "cold" (ie who had little to no familiarity with the game and who were not bringing armies of their own) I figured a structured (...)
