Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Stefan van Zwam
Hello people, Quite a few animators who sent their work to BricksWest, but were unable to be there (as a result of living in different states, countries or even continents) are waiting for some report on the festival. Anybody who's been there: how (...) (21 years ago, 17-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Paul Sinasohn
I was sitting in the foyer getting ready for the closing address with Matt, so the only entry I saw was the "Christmas Carol" one. But the applause was thounderous for all the entries.      (...) The issue here is that it is a rather delicate subject. Bill is correct, many of the offerings were greeted by healthy applause. There were significant issues, however, with the way things unfolded. I know a number of people were frustrated (...) (21 years ago, 19-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Scott Costello
Lemme chime in here with my opinion on the matter. This was the first animation festival I have ever attended, having missed last years. I was blown away, truely impressed with all the entries (thanks again Todd). Unfortunately the sheet that (...) (21 years ago, 19-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

In response to Scott, but not necessarily directed at Scott but the whole community. (...) The problems with the Animation Festival were entirely mine and mine alone.       (...) I can't believe that they did that again (taped videos playing on a pc monitor)! My videos were a victim of this "process" at the BrickFest 2002 Animation Festival and I felt both embarrassed and furious at the way they were presented - (...)           Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I'm sorry that folks are upset at the videotaping process but as a non animator I was very very glad it was done. I'd rather see a videotape, even at degraded quality, instead of seeing someone struggle to play an animation, spending several (...)        (...) I agree completely. Todd shouldn't have to bend over backwards. Also I was amazed to hear that some contestants weren't received until less than a week before the conference. There should be a deadline that is at least a MONTH before. If it's (...) (21 years ago, 20-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

Tim, thanks for the positive comment, but I still need people to weigh in with their critiques. I have called for input before and no one has said anything.          Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Todd Thuma
Adrian, I am interested in exploring your idea for video like the one Eric and Jeff from RTL showed. Are you thinking about having LUGs and individuals create non-animated videos of their work? I think this would be a great idea. As for the filming (...) (21 years ago, 20-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Adrian Egli
(...) That's exactly what I'd like :-) LTCs (and LUGs too) could film their events, layouts, as RTL Toronto, and add sound, music, maybe even a minifig in the layout giving a tour. Something like what Eric did would be cool. An idea I've got is the (...) (21 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.events.brickswest, lugnet.animation)

Re: Brickswest animation festival: how was it? —Todd Thuma
I appreciate everyone's zeal to know the results.
