 Dear LEGO / 4936
  Can we help?

Dear Lego, Is there something we can do to help prevent the move to China? I know it's probably not possible, but can we show either a form of support or try to prove long term harm of the company's image (I wish Lego Co. the best, but expect the (...)   Re: Can we help?

(...) To be completely clear... we have NOT announced we are moving production to China. Rather we have simply been mentioning that, as good business practice, we are looking at options. As was mentioned elsewhere, 80% of the toy business has it's (...) (20 years ago, 25-Oct-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) And some of us go out of our way to find toys that are NOT produced in China. Sometimes, that's dang difficult, but I for one think it's worth the extra effort. JohnG, GMLTC (20 years ago, 25-Oct-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) As an AFOL who complains long and loud about TLC actions that I disagree with, I feel I have a duty to chime in here: I will not think less of TLC for moving production to China, and I will not buy less from TLC if they move production to (...)   Re: Can we help?

Hello! (...) I wouldn't think less, either, because it's almost impossible. And I wouldn't buy less than I already do because I almost don't buy any new products due to some (Attention! Bad word following!) colour change. But as a citizen of the (...) (20 years ago, 26-Oct-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Now this may sound naive, but: WHY do you (and so many with you) object to production in China? I have seen some very good quality coming from over there (Atlas model trains comes to mind). I realy don't know why China would be a worse place (...) (20 years ago, 26-Oct-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) because of their established slave labor practices & the 'first' world nations general willingness to look the other way for cheap stuff. (3 URLs) & just do a search for "chinese slave labor" or "laogai" I'm changing the forum to (...) (20 years ago, 28-Oct-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Good idea. However many consider it polite not to change the location of the post without any warning. Since you posted to ONLY off-topic.debate, people who subscribe to dear-lego by mail, or even by nntp, didn't see your post at all, and (...)   Re: Can we help?

(...) SNIP oops-sorry, thanks for the heads up, Lar Jeff (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) SNIP (...) Thank you for the quick response. If LEGO {does} move to china, Lego must make sure the workers are verifiably well treated & paid AND the facility is a safe, healthy place for them to work. Kinda like 'transparency' in operations. (...) (20 years ago, 30-Oct-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Just a word of warning, and pointing out the obvious: If LEGO moves production to China, expect leaks of set designs, the copying of sets by clone bricks, etc. to happen on a regular basis. The legal department will have their hands full! Just (...) (20 years ago, 1-Nov-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Already happens. Sometimes people get unauthorized access to dealer catalogs (those which local stores use to order stock from), and other times people sneak photos at early toy shows that are not supposed to be open to the press (like the one (...)   Re: Can we help?

(...) A good observation! With production outside China, there are no leaks of set designs or copying of clone sets... (...) Another good observation! It was obviously a huge mistake to start producing those Hollywood films in China... Cheers Richie (...) (20 years ago, 1-Nov-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Bad form to reply to my own message, but judging from some replies to my posting, I can see that I didn't make myself clear in the original posting. What I meant to say was this: If LEGO moves production to China, expect an enormous amount of (...) (20 years ago, 1-Nov-04, to lugnet.dear-lego, FTX)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) I guess the point I was trying to make is that if TLG moved production to China, they would be spending more resources on combating theft of intellectual property than what they are currently used to. I am not an economics major, but moving to (...) (20 years ago, 1-Nov-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) There's a point in there, somewhere. I'm sure of it. Perhaps, Richie, you'd be kind enough to make it more clearly... as a personal favor to those of us who aren't terrifically clever and witty, like yourself, or who perhaps aren't as good at (...)   Re: Can we help?

(...) I fail to see how that is an outrageous claim. I was able to watch Shrek 2 on DVD several months ago, and the DVD is only scheduled for release on November 5th (according to Blockbuster). Yes, the quality was terrible, but it was the full (...) (20 years ago, 2-Nov-04, to lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Full movie, I can see (again: camcorder, DVD recorder, stack of blank DVDs), but was it the full DVD? Did it include any of the special features or menu screens? (...) Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on how much of the concept-to-box production (...) (20 years ago, 2-Nov-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Can we help?

(...) Moving production to to a country with less-ethical business practices might make it easier for people to copy your work, but that would depend on the business you chose. There is production that goes on in China, carried out by reputable (...) (20 years ago, 2-Nov-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
