Mr Brad Justus.
LUGNET readership..
Dear Sirs ( with apologies),
As a long term fan of your construction toys and products I would like to
suggeste the following ideas for 2003 onwards. (I have used this date as I
seem to recall you having a three year product cycle.)
In No particular order:
(i) Dino- Sculptures.
I feel that producing sculpted models of Dinosuars using LEGO(R) bricks would
be cool. A number of the parts for doing such a range already exist within the
LEGO(R) range. This range would tap into the market held by the wooden kits
currently available. Couple up a motorised dino with Mindstorms and you have
a very markateable product.
(ii) Nasa sets- (one for when SW expires perhaps). Previously suggested so
look in the LUGNET archive...
(iii) Optrix- A set of LEGO(R) elemts for perforiming effects with light and
optics. The elemetns produce d could include lenses, mirrors, prisms as well
as cloured lighting. An optrix range could also take adavantge of the rapidly
devloping technology of Light Emitting Polymers, again placing LEGO(R) at the
forefront of technology in construction toy design.
(iv) Bring back Town!! I belive that this would be peopular from an Adult
collectors pointr of view by producing a sammler number of Town (sr ;-) ) sets
but of higher quality. I am also sure some on LUGNET might be prepared to pay
a little extra on these sets if the quality was extremly high?
(v) Minfigs - The LEGO(R) minifig is an asset which is under used. The LEGO
(R) Group could in theroy produce custom minfig batches for major tourist
attractions or cities ( I belive ther are already specialised ones for the
LEGOLAND shops..) An extension of this might be to provide Tussad Group in
London with Minifigs of suitable Hisatorical fiqures or in generic costumes.
As evidenced on a number of sites the Minifig is 'very' customisable given
time...
(vi) Adventurers- Jules Verne?
(vii) Lord Of the Rings. This is a great Idea for a 'fnatasy' theme but may
conflict with your plans for a Harry Potter Line?
Well thats the idea for sets and ranges :-)
The next set of suggestions are for increasing the LEGO brand outside of
bricks.
(i) TLFS - The Lego(R) Furniture Scheme. A series of interconnected units
that can be used to provide furnishings and play space within a childs room.
This could easily be done given that Ikea( A swedish furniture store)already
has schems that could be used as inspiration. Alongside this idea for a
complete furnishiung scheme is
(ii) Allow Licensing to produce items such as containers, bed-linen,
wallpapers to have LEGO(R) fiqures and designs on them. It works for Disney
charecters! Why Not for LEGO(R)?
(iii) A feature film - You already have acess to a production company
accroding to your press-releases...
Or alternativly
(iv) A TV series involving Lego(R) Charecters. When I first suggested this
concerns were raised by others that a LEGO(R) show might be seen as an
'advert' of the 'How to Buy Action Fiqure Man' design. However, I belive in
your valkues and hope that this would not be the case.
(v) A fan-zine for the AFOL community. I tried (unsuccesfully?) to get an
unoffical collection of articles together in September. Unfortunatly I didn't
get much repsonse. With your profile and LEGO Media you might be able to
perfom better than I did..
I hope that this letter gives you some ideas or at least some thinking points.
Yours sincerly
Alex Farlie
