Huh.. Well, that's good to hear anyway :) I had rather hoped it would do well,
I had just been hearing bad things to date...

turning away people when they reach capacity is standard.  disneyland,
knott's berry farm, magic mountain, and other southern california theme
parks all do this.  there is a limit on the number of people allowed in
the park at once (set by the fire marshal, I believe) and they cannot
legally let more people in.  This just indicates that on certain days
they are filling to capacity.

I guess that makes sense-- I just hadn't heard of it happening before... from
the accounts I had heard it made it sound like the capacity they set had been
very small, making for a lot shorter lines and smaller crowds-- a nice feature,
but probably bad for moneymaking. But if their limits are actually the same
limits set by safety regulations, it makes total sense.

'older' kids are
bored silly (one child in one review was actually at the point of tears from
boredom), and adults aren't quite the type to be repeat customers.
Basically, it was catered to parents with young children-- a smaller market
than it "should" be. The only other positive thing (other than young kids
having a great time) has been that it's a really cleanly park with a good
atmosphere (good/nice employees, etc). Otherwise, it sounds like a good idea
that just didn't make it.

they are not targetting the park at older children.   Local television
advertising has been aimed at younger children.

That was something that struck me as odd, seeing as how I remember my 'best'
Lego years as being when I was 10-12, and I think that's right outside the
range the park was for-- I seem to remember it being geared for 4-8 or so? At
any rate, I would have expected Lego to target the age range at which their
products are geared towards, not mearly the younger half of that audience.

They've also been doing
some advertising for adults, especially older people.  I've seen a large
number of people in their 60s at the park.  They seem to enjoy it, and
I'm not surprised.  Most of them aren't interested in the high speed
rides which appeal to teenagers.  They'd rather just walk around and
look at LEGO models.

That doesn't suprise me at all. In fact that matches exactly with what I'd
expect. For adults by themselves, I expect things like Miniland and the general
model areas would be quite entertaining. The only problem, not that it's a big
problem by any means, is that you don't quite get the repeat business that you
do with kids. Kids wouldn't mind going every weekend-- adults (short of AFOLs
perhaps) probably wouldn't go more than twice a year, probably even less, at a
guess.

Anyway, nice to hear SOMETHING positive about Lego as of late-- I had rather
thought the opposite for a while...
