I think he's talking about the Imperial Soldiers
(Redcoats and Bluecoats) in the old Lego Pirates theme.
Based on the minifigs in my possession,
by comparing the print jobs on White-Torso minifigs
to the print jobs on (Other)-Torso minifigs,
I'd have to say that this uggestion wouldn't "work"
(given their current printing results),
because the resulting minifigs would have a "duller"
(less vibrant, less rich) hue in color.
As an example, take one of the Conquistador minifigs,
and look at the "white" painting on them.
Very "dull"/"flat", isn't it?
Now, compare this to the paint job
on the "green vest and bandolier" paint job
on a White torso.
_MUCH_ more vibrant, isn't it?
Personally, as a fan of the pirates theme,
I would consider any such minifig
to be of much less value (to me)
simply based on the appearance of it,
regardless of the antiquity/collectability.
As an example of this decision in practice
(aleit, off topic), when Wizards of the Coast
changed the printing for their card game,
"Magic: the Gathering" for one of the editions,
the resulting cards were "duller" and less vibrant.
They corrected this mistake later on, IIRC,
and I would trade away any cards I had
from this specific edition for "less valuable" editions
simply because I disliked the coloration
of that specific edition.
Thanks.
