I think the issue below is one that bothered me a great deal doing
inventories of the pirate sets.  Many of those sets were done across the
change in minifig heads from solid to hollow studs.  That means that one
MISB set 6285 could have part number 3626a while another MISB 6285 could
have part 3626b.  Which do you list as THE inventory?  Right now Peeron has
chosen 3626a (although it incorrectly specifies 3626bpx13; the pattern is
right, but it should be a solid stud version), but both are valid in this
case.

A similar problem cropped up with shooting vs. non-shooting cannons.
Currently the inventories for the various pirate sets choose based on
whichever version the person who inventoried the set had.  Right now the
6285 inventory lists shooting cannons, but if it had been a US version that
would be incorrect.  Clicking on 'Cannon - Shooting' (x110) brings up a list
that doesn't include the Red Beard Runner.  Didn't the Red Beard Runner come
with shooting cannons in Europe?

Peeron really needs to come up with a policy to handle sets that may have
come in various "versions".  Whether that means keeping multiple inventories
for individual sets, or coming up with a way to specify within the inventory
that parts may vary.

Also I think it would be a good idea to include a policy on parts found in
different version like 3062a / 3062b , 4085a / 4085b / 4085c and many
others. Sometimes when doing an inventory from a source other than a MISB
set it is very hard if not impossible to distinguish such minor • variations.
And I think a clear policy of what to do is needed.

(...) As a side-note on this issue, it's further complicated by the fact that it depends on when the 6285 was bought in the U.S. First-year U.S. sets DID have shooting cannons. I have a 6274 Caribbean Clipper and a 6276 El Dorado Fortress bought in (...) (22 years ago, 18-Nov-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

(...) Thanks for an excellent job, making Peeron a very valuable ressource for the community. I like the FAQ, very useful. I think it really covers many of the questions often asked. A few things I am missing though, are that when doing an inventory (...) (22 years ago, 13-Nov-02, to lugnet.db.inv)
