  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) Yes...when the Ninja theme came out, I immediately thought cool! Shogun with Lego! If you ever read or saw James Clavell's "shogun" you'll see that the Portuguese were very active in Japan. I realize this novel takes great liberties with (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) To the best of my knowledge, junks (later called san-pans) were Chinese/Korean in origin. I was under the impression that a majority of Japanese ships were coastal vessels, small fishing boats or galleys, designed for short journeys and (...)   Re: pirate + ninja

(...) That's a great scene! You can build some neat small ships out of non-pirate pieces - then you could do a Commodore Perry scene. Well, you have definitely inspired me - I already have my pirate crew assembled, and I'm going to start working on (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja, lugnet.pirates)

Re: What kinds of rooms are in Japanese castles ?

(...) You and me both =8^) (...) The reason why I built my "Gatehouse" in such large scale was to get a feel for how large a structure would need to be to accomodate many of the rooms you mention. A personal goal is to build a structure that can (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) Answered offline (...) www.bricksmiths.com (...) Count me as interested, depending on price point, and I don't even "do" castle. :-) Larry Pieniazek Bricksmith www.miltontrainworks.com (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) No pirate ships. I don't have any and they are WAY too expensive in Japan. Two pics from that MoC are here (URL) plan to rebuild and overhaul this idea later since very few of the photos came out well. Chris (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja, lugnet.pirates)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) Well, there were a lot of Japanese pirates. They used to make life very unpleasant for the Koreans and Chinese. The Koreans called em "Wako". Chris Barker chris@superfami.com (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja, lugnet.pirates)

Re: What kinds of rooms are in Japanese castles ?

4 48x48 plates? Are you sure that will be big enough ?_? I went there years ago and all I remember is that the rooms were small and the floors were dark brown wood... Have you looked at (URL) ? lots of pics and it has a good English section for (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) Guild of Bricksmiths (URL) Finally, I like the white+ blue combo for castles e.g. Himeji which was (...) Very ambitious! Are you thinking of dealing with the fact that each structure is built from a different base altitute? Chris (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) Hmm, a Ninja island for the Pirate Game... I'll have to think about how that might work into the game... Of course there's lots of opportunity for piracy and whatnot in the oriental world. In fact, that corner of the world is one area where (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja, lugnet.pirates)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) Definitely! Especially the Imperial Armada troops like in set 6280. I've even considered adding a William Adams/Blackthorne character to my Samurai ranks. Christopher Pisciotti Loch Forest, CA (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: pirate + ninja

(...) Actually, I was just thinking about that whole concept. There is a big Pirate Game get-together that is supposed to be happening in June, and I was thinking about the possibility of building an island inhabited by Ninja types. I would love to (...)   Re: What kinds of rooms are in Japanese castles ?

(...) Also the usual range of rooms you'll find at any military-type structure... kitchens, training rooms (dojo, in the case of ninja stuff), barracks, servants quarters... probably more stuff, but these are the first things that pop to mind with (...)   What kinds of rooms are in Japanese castles ?

Here's my open question for the group which will help me out when I am planning my interiors. I am planning a very large (4 gray baseplate) Himeji castle and would like to have some ideas on what people have read or think are legitimate Japanese (...)   Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) Chris, Now you got me intrigued. Who are the GoB folks ? Do they have a website ? I might explore the possibility of a custom castle if people are interested but I don't even know how to gauge interest ? Also, to make the custom set reasonably (...)   Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) I looked at all these when I was at Legoland - I felt 3344 was dreadfully overpriced for a single figure. The set with the green ninja was okay, but still on the high side. Bruce (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) The Mini Heroes Collection, sets 3344, 3345, 3346, add a little more variation. I especially like 3344 with it's black armor and horned helmet. I think he makes a pretty cool Ronin leader or a Diamyo for your red army. Would have been nice if (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

one cool thing about Ninja sets in Japan

At least we got firing cannons! Cannons were not common in Japan during this period, but they did exist. Chris Barker chris@superfami.com (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  pirate + ninja

Has anyone considered that pirate minifigs work well as Portugese traders and missionaries within the Ninja world? I did a MoC based on this which I'll post pics of one day. Maybe I'll get around to doing some Nagasaki MoCs since it was one of the (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)

  Re: Whoo hoo!!!

(...) Yeah 7,800 yen to be exact. 14,800 yen for the FNF. And we do not have anything like Walmart where stuff can be bought at closeout prices. Even the used pricing in online auctions over here is outragous. (...) Maybe KK could be convinced to (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-01, to lugnet.castle.ninja)
