Re: July surprise for castle fans! —Thomas Garrison
(...) Huh? I haven't seen new sets with 80s style castle walls (straight or corner) since Fright Knights (1997), and I thought the grille helmet and one-clip saddle were discontinued a long time ago. They could *update* the Guarded Inn, but I don't (...) (23 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.castle)

(...) fyi - Enchanted Island (to be reissued) has two castle corner pieces, and King Leo's Castle has a couple straight walls. And Fright Knights had the grill helmet in black. Kevin (23 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.castle)

Extinct Castle pieces (Re: July surprise for castle fans!) —David Eaton
(...) So... what castle pieces HAVE been discontinued? And what sets would that exclude? The single-clip saddle certainly excludes a lot of classic sets... but what else is no longer around? - Single clip saddle - Euro armor - Plastic cape - 3x5? (...)       grille helmets ghosts I guess the next question is do people feel strongly enough about the exactness of the sets. would a remade Guarded Inn be acceptable with a twin clip saddle. OK bad example I know - of course it would but you get my point. Its (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Extinct Castle pieces (Re: July surprise for castle fans!) —Thomas Garrison
(...) If by "Old style axe" you mean what Partsref calls "Castle Pike", King Leo's Castle has three (in cool colors, no less). The hand ax I haven't seen since Wild West. . . I think baseplate are like cloth or Technic flex tubes---cut to spec. (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Extinct Castle pieces (Re: July surprise for castle fans!) —John Carroll
(...) Extinct and out of production are two different things. When the whole LEGO direct discussion started (about a year ago?) a Lego representive said something about reusing old molds and that they don't get rid of the old molds. but some really (...)    (...) Huh... I guess I was never told that this was "top secret" information or anything, and I'm not even sure it's true, but what I had heard was that the molds are destroyed if they're not going to be used-- And from what it sounded like the (...)         Re: Extinct Castle pieces (Re: July surprise for castle fans!) —Kevin Salm
(...) A lot of discussion here seems to be centered around if Lego still has molds for certain parts. Even if they do not have all of the molds they need, creating more is just one of the costs of producing Lego elements. TLC seems to bear the cost (...) (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.castle)
