Vikings weren't Normans until they settled in Normandy.
It wasn't until @800 AD the Vikings truly started testing and attacking the
Frankish borders. By @900AD the Vikings started to colonize northern France
and it soon became Normandy.
Before that, they were Vikings and I'm pretty sure the Danes (at least) had a
form of heraldic symbols, such as the falcon (denoted on their tunics).
I don't think you are giving the Vikings enough credit ;)

Totally. I'm not stating that just because a Black Falcon is in *my* coat of
arms the BFs are of Scandinavian origin. I just found it ironic because I
collect LEGO.
