Now here's something to ponder...

What's your favorite castle set made by TLC (no MOCs Please :-)? And please
explain *why*. I'm really interested.

I don't have enough castle sets to judge, and I want to know what everyone
thinks. I'd really rather you choose between the real *castles* per se, not
from all the "sets".

Personally I don't see what's so great about the YC... sure, it has no prefab
pieces, it's the first castle set ever... but I just don't see what's so
amazing about it.
I only have 6090, 6091 and 6097 (out of the "real" castles)... out of those
I'd undoubtly say my fave is 6090.
Other castles that I saw in catalogs look nice, as a catalog-kid I used to
admire 6081... then again, I might've only admired it because it was a castle,
regardless to what was in it. :-) All I know is that I vividly remember myself
looking at the catalog and hoping to get "that cool set"... same with 6086,
when it came out. OTOH, 6082 wasn't really something to look up to IMO, even
back then (altho' the DMs as a whole seemed VERY cool).

I really can't say anything about sets like 6074, 6085, 6080 or 6073 because I
was too young to appreciate them when they came out and I'm too young to
gather enough money to get them now and judge them. (always too young... :-)

Well anyhow I'd like to hear your opinion!

Tough question because I have different criteria...

My sentimental all time favorite:
The Yellow Castle was my first and was very expandable...at the time the
Yellow Castle came out gray was scarce in non space sets, and the yellow 1x4
hinge bricks were innovative allowing for easy access and configuration
changes. I made a blue and then a red foundation that allowed figures to fit
under the walkways...this set had plenty of weapons and mine came w/ 8 extra
visors and 3 gray helms as well as 2 blank gray vests...The horses were
great in my opinion, esp. since I was young and could not build one that
looked as good...

From a aesthetic perspective...
Black Falcon's fotress had a great facade and some unique pieces like the
clip flag, Yellow Tudor wall and the gray corner walls...I liked this
Castle's formidable presence and color scheme among the figs...I later
incorpoated a modified version of this set in a fortress, tripling the wall
height and building an 8 layer tall blue keep/foundation, w/ removable floor
that covered the dungeon...this model lent itself well to aspirations of
building a more accurate multi level structure w/ stairwells and removable
floors for access...this castle came w/ many essential
components...drawbridge, tall parapets, a dungeon/jail, arrow loops etc.

From a parts perspective...
6080 had 12 soldiers and 4 horses (which were new at that time-all my other
horses were brick+plate) many extra weapons and gray bricks in addition to
numerous castle wall segments...This set had a great gate house and a
portcullis + Drawbridge that I later attached to winches and even
motorized...in my sealed away MOC I maintained much of the gatehouse...this
castle had plenty of the then "new Style" wall segments th allowed me to
maintain unformity in my creations...
